The way I understand it, is when you update your BIOS with Winplash, it gives you the option to SAVE your old (BIOS BAK) that means you can tell Winplash where to save your old BIOS Bak, to, floppy, CD-RW/DVD-RW, or to where ever you choose to save it to, just make sure you save the BIOS BIN FILE of your old BIOS, cuz that's the one you'll need, if you ever want to go back to the old one, but be very careful, if you don't do this correctly, you could LOSE your old BIOS forever, and the only way to get it back is to send it into Gateway and have them do it, but it won't be cheap, if it's your fault, and you'll have to EAT the cost of this

But is there any program or something that will copy my BIOS even though I'm not going to change it or update it?I've searched the net for awhile and all i find is "how-to's" about flashing a bios but not copying one you already have.

what do you mean "just for Vista?" Basic Input Output Software (BIOS) is what allows your computer to be controlled by the operating system (XP, Vista, etc.) and has nothing to do with which OS you're running

In the BIOS Utillity Winplash, you can choose to just backup the old BIOS by checking the boxes in the advanced options, (it's called backup BIOS only) you don't have to Flash anything if you do want to, also, if everything is working correctly on your notebook, then why do you want to update the BIOS........it is advised NOT to do it, if your not having any problem, so I'm confused as to what you want here?

Ghost 2003 Image of XP , if I ever want to go back to it, I have, and it works fine.........it's nice to have a choice (XP or Vista) as I have both OS options if I want to..............but, no real need to, as I have 3 Gateway Notebooks (MX6447, has Vista Home Premium MX6453, has Vista Ultimate, and the 7405GX, has XP PRO on it)

$20 isn't all that bad considering the cost of XP being around $150.....go ahead and order them, at least they have everything on them that makes your notebook work correctly (in the event you don't like Vista) and let's not even talk about Vista SP1, if your system is like mine, you won't even be offered SP1 via Windows Update, until Gateway gets there act together on incompatible drivers on most of the systems that Gateway sells right now......
