Um....I want my alien's eyes to change color...

I got this computer on ebay the other day. The seller refuses to email me back about accessing the hive even though he states he never used it for anything. I am wondering if the BIOS is a different version in that picture. I have 2.03 (I think). If anyone can send me any or all of the bios' OR let me get into the coveted hive for a few minutes, I'd really appreciate it. The post was last updated 2 weeks ago and I think m5500 is at the top of the list...if it was a mistake wouldn't they have changed it? I want to see if I can get the eye color to change with the power state. Thanks for any help.

If you have an m5500(766) the eyes can be changed in the bios.

If you have a later m5500, it doesn't have that feature.

This is the 766, it has rounded speakers in the front.

If your speaker grills are square, you have the later model m5500, and the lights are not changeable.

Is there a difference in hardware? Are the lights still in there but no software support? Is it just a diff of BIOS? If so can anyone hook me up with the BIOS version or maybe if I could actually find alien fx to download...maybe i can access them through that?

There is a difference in hardware. The 766 version had multiple color LEDs in the eyes, whereas the new ones don't.

They sell the LED board on EBAY. If I bought it, could I use that bios instead? Is that the only difference?

The BIOS controls the motherboard and how it interacts and "talks to" all the other hardware you have installed in the computer. Flashing a motherboard with a BIOS not intended for it will result in a completely unbootable computer. And unless you can reset the CMOS battery, you have no way of re-flashing the BIOS back to one that will work.

There are only blue led's in the newer m5500. The older m5500(766) had red, green, blue and white led's in there.

Yeah I bought the board with the different LEDs.

But it was controlled in BIOS, and you can't flash the old BIOS to the newer system..... best bet is rigging up a switch somewhere in/on the case that you could toggle the different lights on and off.

Thats what I was thinking...not really sure how to do it but I will figure it out. I am studying for an exam right now but was going to post asking if anyone could give me some tips. I don't know if this is relevant or not...but there is a connector on the mobo that is unused directly under the RAM slots...hoping that I can connect it to that...again I don't know what I am doing...but I am sure if all else fails I can bring it in to my school and someone in the chem building will know how to do it.
