This M1730 is the worst POS I have ever owned.

I give up.

I bought this M1730, and it is the worst computer I have ever owned.

1. Not that great of a performance increase in games that I play.
2. WAYYY too heavy and huge compared to my last M1710
3. terrible power usage
4. worst placement of ports ever
5. runs so hot my hands get sweaty typing on it
6. refuses to stay at 2.8 ghz let alone overlock
7. Stupid lights and fake ass carbon fiber looks like it was designed by a 16 year old asian girl.
8. completely and utterly useless logitech lcd bugs me.
9. who here has ever used the webcam?
10. SLI drivers are wastes of time
11. raid drivers are a pain in the ass.

I miss my M1710 so much I could cry right now.

Oh well, I bought this M1730 for 1900, and I just sold it via ebay with a one day auction for 2600. I do have to return the 8800M gtx's that I just bought though, but it was worth it to know that I will never ever again buy this piece of crap laptop.

guess you weren't around for the furor and uproar that pervaded these forums when the first specs and pictures of the M1730 came out. it is a huge step back in terms of the industrial design and practicality of the i9200/9300/xps gen 2/m170/e1705/m1710 chassis.

also SLI in notebooks is a joke. especially when it comes to driver support.

yet some people seem all too happy to plunk down 2.5-3+G's for this steaming pile of elephant dung.

There's always the Precision M6300. I just have to wait for the first sucker....err, pioneer to plunk down the cash and report the performance.

Personally, I could wait another year or two though. I couldn't care less what new technology will be on the brink then, but now there are just too many important concepts in development to pass on waiting.

I've considered getting the parts to convert my M1710. In looking around about it, it seems that the guts of the M1710/M90 and M6300 are pretty much identical, maybe a difference here and there, but nothing severe.

lol.

Edit-Missed the part you bought the 8800. Don't tell me you got it from Ebay for 1.4k+?

Atleast you made some money right?

No I argued with dell spare parts, and fibbed my way into getting one for $900 although they REQUIRED that they had a dell tech come and install it (what a joke)

Oh well, I made good money off of it (about 650 after ebay and paypal fees and such)

lol Nice. You must be good w/ words since it seems like many people are failing to get it that price lol.

Good with words = maybe
Persistent = definitely

You know damn well that when you're dealing with dell, when one person says no, call another one.

I had about 6 reps tell me no way, and one did it without question.

get a clevo, I am doin pretty good with mine. and the cooling system kicks ass.

32 degrees at idle and 64 degrees max at crysis.

I just got 11.5k in 3dmark 06 with 1 card. oc'd. yes I have quad core but oc'ing gave me 1.5k more
post #11 of 146
If you just sell the card, would the warranty carry to the buyer? Not that I'm interested in buying the card, but just wondering how it would work out lol.
I do not believe warranty can be transferred on spare parts.

Aye, this reminds me of my (and several others) experience getting the 7800GTX Go for my i9300 from Dell Spare Parts for $252.

I called and spoke with 5 different reps over the course of 3 days and finally found one who was "Oh yes, we have that replacement part # in stock, it will be $252 + tax."

i hate to agree... but i do. ive had lots of probs with the ines ive had. i hope its all past me now. i really am dissapointed in the gaming aspect though. i really expected more from this in those terms. i was sooo close to getting the gateway with the 8800 from best buy before my last repair. if this breaks again i just might!
I for one am done... I'll either go Lenovo (portability) or Clevo (gaming) for my next laptop, though probably the former rather than the latter... I have a desktop for gaming.
I have no problems with mine yet. I have only had it for a couple of weeks. I got it at the outlet. Mine does not run any hotter than my former E1705. The heavy aspect bothered me a bit at first. I got a padded lap desk and now that is not a problem. I have not played any games. I just wanted a powerful system that will last a long time. The port placement is fine with me. Power and Ethernet and USB in back is good. That was the same with my E1705.
I am sorry to hear you had so many issues, Hacks.
wow this is sad to hear i thought this would be a nice lappy
post #18 of 146
I have had a couple problems with my laptop but nothing compared to some people on here. I actually like this laptop a lot and I am really happy with it.

Rockinfella2k, you have the BFG card listed twice in you sig, nice rig btw.
but the clevo is hardly a desktop.

it ways 12 lb yes. but it's freaking easy to take all over.

I take it my pack to coffee, alunch . work , anywhere.

and Plus the build and eveyrthing else you probably allready know.

hell I got 1 card. but it works soo good and oc'd at 600-1500-950 and idles at 35 degrees and peaks at 64. i know 3dmark is crap but it get 11.5 marks from 10k stock with quad but 1.5k I got is just from OC'in.

plus i bet you could get clevo d801c cheaper.

i luve luve luve her.

then maybe just maybe I have the option to put in a new card down the line. maybe they will have matured by then eh>?

Fenux.

That's one thing I'm really happy I did.
