X7900 or X9000???

Well for the past couple weeks I have been having some problems with my M1730. My processor has been overheating and causing my system to blue screen. Before that was happening I noticed it was getting really hot (70+ just while browsing the web) so I was asking my contact about the penryns, if they were just a simple swap in or not. At first he told me that my motherboard did not support them but after I showed him that the new A06 bios says it handles new cpus and the penryns are the only new procs to come out for my laptop, that they should work just fine. He said he was going to check into it for me but while he was doing that for me (he was checking into it for me for about two weeks) my system started to blue screen and lock up. So I told him that I was having some problems and mentioned that some of my friends have the X7900 and X9000 and even have them overclocked to 3.4ghz and they weren't having the same problems so I thought there was a problem with my processor and asked if he could have someone look at it for me. Instead he said he would just swap it out with either the X7900 or X9000, whichever one I preferred, and I picked the X9000 of course. Well a couple hours later he emails me back and said he doesn't know why but he is not able to put in an order for the X9000 but can for the X7900 and asked if I wanted that one instead. I told him that I really wanted the X9000 because it is the new 45nm processor and should run cooler then the merom and since I am having heat issues that the X9000 would be the best bet. I asked if he could try it for a couple days to see if he is able to get it for me. I am wondering if I should wait and try and get the X9000 or if I should just get the X7900? What do you guys think???

Wait for the X9000 obviously.

I think he just had to show off what he was able to pull IMO.

I highly doubt he actually had no clue which CPU was better after hangin out here all these times lol.

Great job man. I just hope people who actually deserve upgrade get one when they need it.

Yeah that is what I was thinking. I dont know how long it will take and I am a very impatient person when I know I am getting something. I sure hope he is able to figure it out by tomorrow.

No I was not trying to show off. I was actually debating on weither or not to even post this thread cause I didnt want people to think that is what I am doing.

The only reason I mentioned those processors to my contact was for comparison. I was just trying to prove a point that if a much faster and even overclocked processor does not have issues overheating and causing the system to blue screen then my processor shouldn't either. Not once did I ask him to exchange my processor for a faster one, I just asked him to send a tech out to make sure everything is working properly.

I also hope that people who are having bigger problems then I have been having get taken care of as well.

No, I wasn't trying to do that. I just wanted mine to be looked at and instead he offered it.

you have all the luck McFly, lol. I am having huge issues with mine and its now at the service depot getting looked at hopefully they'll replace my cpu in my system as its acting crazy and hitting 80C at only 1.1ghz and stuck at 100% cpu use. I have my system for about 2 months and have only been able to use if for about a week total. This stinks!

Wow man that stinks. I bet they will replace a lot of parts at the depot. Hopefully that fixes it for you. This is one sweet system but they seem to be having a lot of problems, some more then others. I just hope that after this, that I dont have any more and I can get back to gaming.

So let me get this straight. You had an E1705 with a 7900GS. You got an M1730 with a T7500, 2GB of DDR, and 8800s, and NOW you get the T7500 swapped for an X7900 / X9000 for FREE?

I'm sorry, but something is ----ed up. Fenuxx, Yoob, Ganz, and I have fought forEVER for SOMETHING to happen when we've had XPS M1710s, and you just get handed parts (upwards of 1,000 to 2,000 dollar upgrades a piece?)

Yes that is correct.

Yes you are right, something is ----ed up. You guys should be able to get your problems taken care of and I think it sucks that you guys have been through so much and I really do hope that you get taken care of and soon. Unfortunately with Dell it is all about who you talk too.

Also not that it matters but fens original system was a E1705 so that may be some of the hold up but at this point that doesnt really matter and he should be taken care of for all the crap he has been through.

Dell took so long with my replacement that my warranty expired during the exchange, so I can't do anything about my M1730 (Audio sounds wierd, but that 's about it.)

HOWEVER, Dell really needs to stop this favoritism bullshit.

you must be like the master of social engineering.

you must have a mixed up file.

they must think that your brad pitts brother.

there has to be something up, because they are giving you 4-5k worth of machine for a 1000 dollar machine in value....

Why would the X7900 be overheating?

wow that sucks man. Shouldn't you be covered under the 21 day warranty from the day you received the computer or has that passed as well. They should fix the computer if it wasnt working to begin with regardless of what warranty you have/had.

Well I hope they atleast replace my CPU hopefully with the newer ones I wont be greedy I just want one that works I would love a x7900 or x9000 and if they give it to me I'm physched, but I feel at t8300 or whatever the new 2.4 is called would be just fine. What I'm really worried about is the GPU it as you know came with a 8700 and it still shows 8700 on the original system configuration and if those dell depot guy get replacement happy and swap a bunch of stuff out I will flip the script if they throw a 8700 back in and send it my way.

I repeatedly told Dell I did not want to send my system off, as much as I upgraded my Warranty to next day service in home just to keep my system from leaving me and letting some depot tech start slappin in wrong parts. But the tech here in Roanoke is a duche (sp?) and even forgot to put my gpu back and since he opened my system up the cpu has been doing its lame ass bull.

And I know I know puncuation sorry doing this with my boss looking over gotta type fast.

I sure hope everything comes back fine from the depot. When I sent in my E1705 to the depot it was all messed up and that is what lead to me getting my M1730. All they did was swap the motherboard and they didnt even test it after they swapped it. The only part that they sent back that was incorrect was my battery.
