I think the OP is good at dreaming up problems only. I have no problems with my 1730. It did got hot once since I have had it, because it did not hibernate when I placed it into a partially open bag. Vista is my problem. I have had complete care warranties on all of my Dell computers. I have never had to use them for anything. I have sent one laptop back after having it for a few days.
This guy is good at making things up. He also found out who to talk to. I guess good for him. It also means high prices eventually for others. Others who have been mentioned also get screwed over with warranties because of stuff like this.
Get a desktop for gaming, Mcfly.

Get a better cooling solution. A lap desk if you are using it that way. Elevate the back. Buy a cooling solution.
Here is one.

McFly had a valid point we both got our systems around the same time with the same specs yet he constantly has temps that used to be higher than mine, now he did open his 8800s to add thermal paste, I did not, but still his cpu and gpu temps were always 10-15C higher than mine and yes I understand enviromental variables play a part but if you came to my house you would know my room is link the second circle of hell and you sweat just sitting in there sometimes. So unless hes satan himself McFly's enviroment could not be much hotter than mine and my temps never went over 65 for gpu and 50 for cpu.
Now is a little different I would be happy to have McFlys heat issues as my computer has become unusable and had to be sent back to depot, my temps were stuck at 65-80C and cpu was always maxed at 100% and couldnt go faster than 1.6 but felt more like 400mhz celeron, I hope they fix my issue and if I get a cpu upgrade of it great if not oh well, i too feel jealous that McFly has such an easy time getting the "replacements" he get from his rep but you know what oh well tough luck.
And I'm osrry if Dell "wants" to give mcfly these upgrades instead of addressing the problem then thats their problem not your nor mine. Its not McFlys job to say sorry rep but I cant take that free upgrade as it will drive costs up for everyone else in the long run, they should higher reps who can resist a little complaining from customers who wouldnt mind getting a free upgrade when they know a rep is so willing to pass them out, by the way McFly and myself started 8700's in our systems.
He mentioned it to his rep got the upgrade without issue saying that the system didnt "feel" as fast as his original 7900gs. I had to fight up the ladder for my concern was that dells warranty says same specs or better and I felt that a 8700gt was not the same or better in every way as my 7800GTX and my sticking point was the 128-bit bus of the 8700 was not the same or better as my 7800GTX's 256-bit bus. So I have no idea why I went into that again but feel that I guess everyone should just stop bragging about how the got dell to "give" them such and such and just be happy with what you got.
End Rant...

Actually I do live in the desert lol. The funny thing is that my laptop is always in my living room and its always cold in here cause we have high vaulted cellings. my thermostat says its 69F and its normally around that temp in my house. My wife was just using the laptop and was on her forums and I came down to check my thread and the vid card was at 83 and my proc was at 69. Once it starts to get over 70 is when it will blue screen. I did have heat issues with my last laptop but that isnt what caused me to get my M1730.

Maybe its a bios/fan issue; I've been looking around trying to get a fangui type solution for vista64 but have not found one. My GPU idles higher than when Im gaming cos the bloody bios setting keeps the fans off most of the time
and yes you are a jammy B, I wouldn't push it - they do read these forums and it may get back, take whatever they give and feel lucky
