Well I received an email today from my dell rep and he was able to send out the X9000 to me and I should receive it soon. Now I have to schedule an install date with a tech. They normally dont come out after 5 and I work until 6 everyday so this should be fun.

Well it looks like the part was sent to a technician and not to me like my video cards were. The parts have already been delivered but the tech has not called me yet. Guess I wont get it till Mon.

Well the tech came out yesterday and installed my new X9000. It did not come with another fan assembly so he was going to reuse mine and wasnt going to add any more thermal paste cause he didnt have any. So I was able to dig up some Shin Etsu and he put that on there for me. I put the proc at 3.4ghz right away and with it at that speed that fans stay on high the whole time. I played some games a little yesterday and I noticed that my vid cards actually run a lot cooler, like 72 LOAD when I used to get 83-84 load. the proc runs great and cool, 36 idle. In games though it gets up over 80 but games dont slow down and it doesnt blue screen. I love it.

you have had all the luck my friend in getting a loaded 1730 from a lowly e1705. cheers mate I am seriously jealous.
I am gearing up for the dive into the 1730 myself soon, aside from the issues you have had so far general impressions?

I really like this computer actually. I like the way it looks, I love the keyboard and all the lights. The only thing they should have done differently is made the Logitech game lcd tilt up when the system is opened. With it always flat like that and off to the side its not that good for games. You have to lean forward to read what is on it. If it tilted up and was in the middle it would be a lot more practical.

Hi

I am also getting a x9000 ship to me tomorrow. I had a T7700 prior.... so the x9000 Penryn works with our Merom motherboards... I know you also had a Merom before too.

Yeah it works just fine but you have to update the bios first.

you need to change two things in your sig.
1) I'm sure you have the 8800M GTX SLI 1GB
2) each hard drive spins at 7200 so if you're gonna combine them it would be 14,400.

Nice scores btw. You should upload them if you havent already.

no matter how many HDs you place in RAID, theya re still 7200RPM.

Yes I know, I am just saying that if he is going to do it at least add them right. I dont get why people do it and I wouldnt do it myself but if he wants to then oh well.

you've got a special hook up with work dont you mcfly? i think thats why you're getting such great deals. i dont think that the average consumer would be near as lucky! i got superbly lucky with mine, but, i would never dream that dell would hook me up like you. i started out with a system well above yours, and you have come up from behind and taken the lead! i just really wish that they would take care of some of the guys here like fenuxxx though.

McFly, I am with you as far as luck goes. I started with an M1710 with a 2.0GHz CPU, and the 7900GTX GPU, 2GB Ram, and a 100GB 5400RPM HDD.

I now have the beast in my sig

250GB 7200RPM HD just came out and you got it already??? Where did you get it from?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. How much was it?

i upgraded my m1730 with a x7900 using artic silver five thermal paste and my cpu temp will hit in the lower to mid 70's when gaming.. the cpu will get that hot especially when overclocked to 3.2 or 3.4... i am running mine at 3.0 ghz and it gets hot.. the thermal paste was applied correctly and the heat sinks were carefully cleaned to leave no old paste.. i think those temps are normal..

Before that was happening I noticed it was getting really hot (70+ just while browsing the web) so I was asking my contact about the penryns, if they were just a simple swap in or not. At first he told me that my motherboard did not support them but after I showed him that the new A06 bios says it handles new cpus and the penryns are the only new procs to come out for my laptop, that they should work just fine. He said he was going to check into it for me but while he was doing that for me (he was checking into it for me for about two weeks) my system started to blue screen and lock up. So I told him that I was having some problems and mentioned that some of my friends have the X7900 and X9000 and even have them overclocked to 3.4ghz and they weren't having the same problems so I thought there was a problem with my processor and asked if he could have someone look at it for me. Instead he said he would just swap it out with either the X7900 or X9000, whichever one I preferred, and I picked the X9000 of course. Well a couple hours later he emails me back and said he doesn't know why but he is not able to put in an order for the X9000 but can for the X7900 and asked if I wanted that one instead. I told him that I really wanted the X9000 because it is the new 45nm processor and should run cooler then the merom and since I am having heat issues that the X9000 would be the best bet. I asked if he could try it for a couple days to see if he is able to get it for me. I am wondering if I should wait and try and get the X9000 or if I should just get the X7900? What do you guys think???
IF YOUR LAPTOP IS BSOD, THEN IT COULD BE A CPU OR OPERATING SYSTEM ISSUE.. MY CPU RUNS AS HOT AS YOURS WITH ARTIC SILVER 5 BUT DOES NOT BSOD... I BOUGHT MY X7900 ON EBAY FOR 400.00 DOLLARS.. I SEE THE X9000 ON EBAY FOR ALMOST 600.00 DOLLARS.. I CANT SEE PAYING THAT EXTRA CASH WHEN I THINK THE PERFORMANCE DIFFERENCE IS NOT THAT MUCH.. THEY RUN A LITTLE COOLER AND HAVE 2 MORE L2 CACHE BUT I CANT SEE PAYING THE PRICE FOR A X9000..

Hey all...

I saw this online and I think it may still work with our M1730s...Still doing some research

Core 2 Extreme X9100
3066 MHz
L2: 6144 KB
FSB: 1066 MT/s
Socket P

EDIT: Hmm...I read Fenuxx statement that it will not work with the 1730, but I am not 100% sure thats the case. Both are socket P, and the only difference is the FSB (800 vs 1066). However ram is only running @ 667 which may cause issues. I dunno - anyone have money to spend...lol
