X7900 or X9000??? - Page 4

Because the FSB is different, it likely won't work. Besides, it's basically an X9000 with a higher FSB. There wouldn't be much of a difference anyways.

will there be a chipset update to alloe 965 to run @1066FSB?
No, it's a hardware limitation.

lol... I have pretty much went from a i9100 to below.. I just have bad luck with systems I guess. My last 1710 was cool until water dripped from the ceiling and got it, but insurance paid for it and i got a 1730... well make that my fourth 1730 due to overheating, bad screens, and a literal HOLE in the second one...

From dell:

"The K890F is for the Processor Service Kit, 2.8GHz, 6MB cache, 800Mhz bus, Intel Core Penryn X9000 and when it's bought separately from a computer the price is $ 2006.99 with taxes!"

If you want it - get it on ebay and get a squaretrade warranty with it. It will be a lot cheaper...

WHAT!!!??? LOL. I have seen it on ebay for $600. Did you get this part number from your system? I also found this part number N386D.

Hey Smooth, how much did you spent on your X9000? Nice to see you got X9000 and 8800 SLI all together

I cant wait until tomorrow... I get my X9000 laptop with 8700's. My business partner is also getting a warranty (upgrade) to a set of 8800's tomorrow as well.

I talked him out of the 8800's and they are going into mine. He is getting a SSD and some other goodies in trade.

Quit a bit more than I hoped actually (did not include extra warranty)...yea yea - you were right :P

However in the end everything is warrantied for at least 2 years and now I have one nice laptop/dtr. I just hope I don't have to take it apart again.

On another note, I wish it was cooler. Even after AS5 its around 43C (CPU - 2.8GHz) and 70C (GPU - not AS5'd - stock) at idle :/ I guess that expected... My 9300 usually hovers @ around 28C (CPU - 2.0GHz) or so at idle.

Dear all.
I'm looking at upgrading from a T9300 to the X9000. I just have two questions though:
1. will doing the upgrade affect my warranty (I've got 3 years complete care) and
2. will I be OK sticking with the heatsink that came with my T9300? All of the ebay adverts I have seen specifically mention that the chips do not come with a heatsink.
BTW - I am hoping to only pay about $430 Australian (a little over $US400).

Here is your answers

1. No it doesn't unless you screw it up. They just won't cover the new cpu unless you buy it from Dell. Your choice to keep the old one if you ever need to "make it look right".

2. I believe the heatsinks for the penryn's are the same.

BTW.. that's a good price.

You're GPU's are idling at 70C

That's not good.... The CPU is even a little high from what others have said. GPU-Z reads my gpu @ 54C at idle. Aero on.

Overall, I agree. However I don't have the fans blasting all the time (only running @ 2.8) and I don't have a cooler. Plus as I type this, the laptop is on a 0.096in plexi sheet which is on my bed.

CPU Core1/Core2: 48C
GPU 1/2: 71C
HD1: 29C
HD2: 30C

Playing Assassins Creed (min fans on):

CPU Core1/Core2: 58C
GPU 1/2: 84C
HD1: 30C
HD2: 31C

EDIT: Well I OC'd to 3.4 and there are some changes:

CPU Core1/Core2: 41-43C
GPU 1/2: 53C (and going lower as I type this)
HD1: 33C
HD2: 34C

I also notice that the exhaust is not even hot - its like a warm breeze.

Like I asked in the last post - what antec cooler are you running?
I usually set my CPU @ 3.0GHz, so the fans is normal. The idel temp around 52C to 54C on GPU and 38C to 40C for CPU.

I understand if you OCing the CPU @3.4GHz all 3 fans max automatically. Yes, the CPU will idle around 27C to 28C and GPU about 48C. But once under gaming, the CPU load temp reach up to 85C to 90C and GPU about 78C. That is at room temp around 72F.

I just run @3.0GHz,and running it @3.4Ghz just too much noise for me.... I don't might if under gaming, but browsing web with that kind of noise? No way.

Hmmm - so I guess the GPU overheating some at idle. For me everything is stock and not even OC'd. The only thing I did was AS5'd the CPU when I had the machine apart. Should I be concerned? I just had this system up and running as a whole for around 3 weeks now so maybe it needs more time to settle?
