Just wanted to let you guys know that I just got my new R61
This is my first IBM laptop, I also a Dell and it has been great, it now belongs to the wife :P
I use my laptop mostly for business and sales presentations. Its about the same weight as my Dell 8600. The screen is much clearer and cleaner vs the Dell.
I have the R61 with discrete graphics, since I am not a gamer, itèll be hard for me to rate that part of it.
I must admit that I was not (and still not) convinced that this is better than any other lappy out there.
The first day that I pulled her out, I was already installing my programs and rebuilding from my old Dell. After about 5 minutes of working the machine to 100% cpu usage, it froze on me!!! Nothing worked, frozen mouse, keyboard etc. I had to do a hard reset. Now that was enough to make me want to return it. Of course I didn't, cuz I wanted to give it a chance. On my second try, it was succesful. Since then I haven't had any issues. Maybe it was a Vista problem, who knows
But I read a lot of the posts here in NBF, and people always which laptop to buy.
I think you should ask yourself "What do I need to do with this laptop?" Play games? Work? School? or all the above? Once you are able to answer those questions, you will know exactly which laptop to get.
My laptop has:
T7300 2ghz
1.5MB ram
80gb HDD (which I will change soon)
DVD/CD-RW (imagine not even a DVD burner)
nVidia NVS 140M
15.4" 1280x800
Vista Business with XP Pro downgrade
this costed me 800$
