Hooking a Desktop to a Laptop Screen

Thread Starter
Once in a while, family members call me up to clean up/format their PC's and now that I've sold my desktop and bought a laptop, I was wondering if there was a way to just bring their tower over to my place and plug it into my laptop somehow and have it displayed on my screen so I'm not stuck doing everything at their house on their monitor.

I have a Sager 5792 Notebook with an Nvidia 8800 GTX video card

No. But you can get a monitor for a couple dollars these days at a Thrift Store...

cant you just use a TV tuner or video capture device?

I second the notion to just go to the thrift store. I have heard of hardware that will do what you want but I recall it costing lost of $$

Ever try to read more than 20 or 30 charachters across on a TV screen? Just not enough resolution.

I wasnt saying hook it up to a TV. I was saying plug the TV tuner into your laptop and then hook your dektop to the laptop through the TV tuner.

and yes I have tried reading on my TV. I use my TV all the time with my laptop, but it is a 40" 1080P samsung LCD so I dont have any problems with that

I wasn't saying that either. The tuner/capture card will only produce an NTSC (tv) quality picture, unless you want to spend a kilo-buck or so on a Hi-Def capture card.
