So here is the BIG question... Quadro 3600M in a M1710 - Page 6

not a bad idea. Who can edit the bios? maybe they can help with the fact my brightness seems stuck at 3.
I can

pm me rapidshare.

I will have it done within 2 minutes

Like I said upload the BIOS here and I'll fix it up for you. The easiest fix for the card now is to just change the Low-3D performance level to be the same as the 3D performance level.

You can ignore the post earlier I made about making the card think it was another card. I was under the impression that you were using a 130W power adapter. I doubt there is anything we can do to fix the brightness besides getting a M6300 Screen/Inverter as mentioned earlier.

Instructions on making a copy of your video card bios:

# Making a copy using NiBiTor
Download NiBiTor from here
Open the Program
Tools -> Read BIOS -> Select Device
Hopefully you will see that you have an "Available Nvidia graphics device" and you can click OK
If not, then you will have to use the NvFlash method posted below
Tools -> Read BIOS -> Read into File
Name the file original.rom or whatever you please; As a good habit, try to make the name shorter than 8 characters (not counting the .rom extension).
Now just PM me and I will give you my email and I'll handle it from there.

# Making a copy using NvFlash on Bootable Media
Follow the link in my signature called Bootable recovery (hopefully you have a flash drive but if you dont cd will work too)
It will instruct you on how to make a bootable flash drive (trust me its easy)
Now just download nvflash from here
Put the nvflash.exe and cwsdpmi.exe in the root of the flash drive (for example F:\)
Reboot with the flash drive in the computer and press F12 on the BIOS screen (just press it repeatedly, it won't hurt)
This will enter you into selective startup
You should see USB storage device or whatnot on the list
Select it
Now run this command without the quotes "nvflash -b original.rom"
Remove the flash drive and press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to reboot
Again just PM me and I will give you my email

just read it with nibior change the clocks to 500 1250 800 and flash it back.

very very simple.

I have flashed my 8800 40 times now.

ok. do I change the bootup clocks? I saved the file and pm'd zz. I am using a 130W power block. If it needs a new inverter for the 3600m wouldnt it also need one for the 1600m?
I can test this today as I have a 1600m. Let me know what you guys want me to try.
Ok. I installed the 1600M. the bios shows it as unknown, but it is able to see the ram on it and the type of LCD installed. so I have brightness control
3dMark06 on this is 4966. GPU-Z shows clocks running at 625/800/1250 with 32 Shaders. Also 3DMark shows QuadroFX series in its results.

thoughts anyone? If I dont need the inverter for this card, why would I need it for the other card? Since they both work on 6300 without needing a different inverter.

Regarding the Darkness it seems like BIOS Issue to me.
It is definitely BIOS related but since we can't change that (easily) we'd have to go the hardware route. Only thing I can think of is the LCD inverter mentioned earlier, but even that is a long shot.

And no, Kal, you would not change the bootup clocks. Just the Thrtl Clocks on the main screen. If you got my PM back though you will not have to worry about modding it yourself. Just to clarify, however, this mod will only let you run the card at max power (or it should at least with a 130W brick or greater). It will not change the brightness problem.

Oh, and before anyone comes in here and says I told you so....uh, I'm still partly correct.

I just emailed you on this.
I have an odd issue right now, if I grab the right hand corner of the laptop base and the upper left corner of the lcd and lift the laptop the system locks up and the lcd starts cycling thru solid colors. All grey then all white then all red and so on. it's weird and it only happens when I move the laptop in that way. not real concerned right now.

On the plus side, I upgraded from a T2500 to a T7600 today. And this 1600M is officially faster than the 2500m I had before. and the 1600M only has 256meg ram.

zz.. just got the updated mod, I will reinstall the 3600m and load this. then post the requested benchmarks. do we know of anyone who mods system bios? I would think that the latest 6300 bios has the recognition for the cards. but I dont know how it puts it into place. I've been doing some reading and there are many people out there modding systemboard bios from desktop systems but not alot doing laptop mods.
Modded. Put a copy of your original on your cd/flash drive before flashing this new rom.

To flash the rom you have to use nvflash on bootable media. Apparently you can use nvflash within Windows but I think it would be best to just use it in DOS like everyone else. I have instructions on making a bootable flash drive in my signature under "bootable recovery". Just ignore all that autoexec stuff and put nvflash.exe, cwsdpmi.exe, your original rom, and my modded rom on your disk. Then reboot and press F12 (repeatedly) at the bios screen. Select USB Storage Device and then use the command "nvflash 3600mod.rom". Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to reboot and you should be good to go.

And are you sure the 1600M is better than your 2500M. What games are you basing this on? 3dmark is known to be "inaccurate" judge of performance between 8 series and 7 series cards. If you have Counter Strike: Source or any other games it would be nice to see a benchmark of those (no rush though).

Lastly, no we don't know anyone at this time capable of pulling off a system bios mod.

sounds good. this will take me a little while and I amthinking we are in different timezones. Give that it's after 1AM here, I probably wont get the numbers up till later today. sry for hte dealy but I like to do this work while fresh.

Games I've played today for Framerate comparisons:
Half-Life2
WOW
LOTRO
not super high end stuff, but the settings are higher than they were before and my framerates are more.
the 1600m is identical to the 8700m

I would try to get the 8800m working

Wow... looks like I may have been right all along. Again.

We may be getting a M6300 in the next week or so with a 3600M in it... to replace one of the 1710's that we have...
Well if you call not being able to read the screen "working" then sure.
Oh and no we aren't in different timezones. I'm just a college kid on a weekend. Just in case anyone was not sure, or needed confirmation, I have compared the 8800M GTX rom to the Quadro 3600M rom and concluded that they are "equivalent"
Ah.. well I am willing to try the inverter if someone can get me the part number. trust me the brightness issue makes the laptop deskbound with the 3600m right now.
