So here is the BIG question... Quadro 3600M in a M1710 - Page 8

3dMark 06 has been ran only scored 6891 but this is on my work laptop so there is some heavy duty programs running in the backround, going to try to disable Antivirus and test again.
After diabling Antivirus it scored a 7143 on 06, sounds about right since my CPU is slower then the M6300 I have next to me and that scored 8068 after tuning.

looks like it's pretty consistant scores with a GTS.

so run some crysis benchmarks. and game benchmarks.

Allright just pulled the screen off the M6300 I have here and put it on the M1710....

Screen is still dim, not as dim as it was with the M1710 but to dim to use.

Dont know how much more testing I can do but I need to put my M1710 back together so I can get back to work.

did you swap the inverter as well? Does the bios recognize the LCD properly now?
I swapped the whole screen and the bios does not recognize it and if I attempt to adjust the brightness nothing happens.
man.. so the screen i have on the way won't help.,. looks like tomorrow I will be asking for a system board. this would be expensive if it wasnt all warranty.

Hmmm... Maybe it'd just be easier/better to convert the M1710 to a Precision M6300 (mobo, screen, GPU, CPU). I'll have to look into that.
Or, just popping the 3600M in there and using an external monitor. Have either of you tried that?

will the SantaRosa chipset allow you to use a T7600 for the CPU?
Nope
Honestly you might as well upgrade the CPU if you are going to do the Mobo, performance is much better on the new Cpu's.

You would have to, it's not even an option.

Edit: too late

Anyway, the post I made earlier about the 3600M being a GTX seems to be invalid. I just saw the GPU-Z. The roms however are almost identical. Seems alot like the 256 MB 7900GS -> 512 MB 7900GTX. So potentially you could flash the GTS card with a GTX bios. Anyway, this is only my thought.

You'd probably be better off asking Dell for a complete M6300 haha. At this rate you'd still need a mobo and a CPU. Either that or get the standard M1730 replacement. Another option is to just keep the 1600M. The road to using a 3600M on a M1710/9400 seems to be at an end however.

I'm going to ask my rep for one of two solutions tomorrow:
1) A bios for the 1705 that has support for the G92 series of mobile gpu's
2) SystemBoard, CPU, 130w power block from 6300.
Does anyone have the system board part number? I would think that you could get it from looking up your service tag.
Do you think I can at least re-use my ram?
The keyboard, RAM, wireless card, bluetooth, hard drive, cd drive, and even an old GPU are likely reusable. Only the CPU is a no-go. The screen could probably work too but ah...

I am glad that I order my M1730 over the weekend with 15% coupon. I sold my M1710 for $1,000 so new lappy ends up for $2,000. Not a bad deal.
