So here is the BIG question... Quadro 3600M in a M1710 - Page 12

probably

Hopefully someone with more time to spare than me will try putting a 900/7950/1500m/2500m/3500m into an M6300. I won't be able to until next week.

Why? Because it will give us another clue as to whether we are dealing with a hardware limitation or bios software. If an M6300 is able to control one of the older cards with no problems, it means that at least the hardware interface has not changed too much.

Hey, I know for a fact that the older cards work in the newer computers. I put a Quadro FX Go 1400 in my M90 to see if his screen problems were card related. (his card turned out to be messed up) But long story short, I had all control over the card including brightness. I highly doubt its a hardware interface problem being that it looks like Dell has not changed their proprietary interface. Whether its PCI-E 2.0 or not is beyond me.

ok.. Here is how we can determine that this is completely a bios issue. Someone with a 6300 and a 3600m flash the 6300 to the original bios. See how the lcd behaves.

I agree 100% with KalAshlar. The only way around this problem is a reworked bios...I love how Dell writes a bios specifically for one series of card....woot for cookie cutter computers...

Hi.

What are you trying to see doing this?

I have fx3600 GPU with stock bios and m6300 with bios A10, (which is now the only one available from dell)

It's an excercise in Futility.

The FX-3600 will never work in the E1705 or M1710 laptop, And we already know that it is a result of the newer cards not supported in the BIOS.

Dell will never update the BIOS on the older laptops to support a newer Generation GPU.

true. I was trying to give an example that would show complete proof so people would stop questioning. that is all.

Plus, even the M6300 itself required a BIOS update for the Quadro FX3600M if I recall correctly. If you know someone that can disassemble a system BIOS then sure...elsewhise, lets avoid another 400 post thread leading to nothing like this.
Halfway there baby!!!

C/mon 400 lol

Hey, quick question, will what other laptops has the FX1600 (not the FX3600)been proven to work in? I am selling mine on here and dont want to give out duff information. Its Nivida G84 and 256mb dedicated fx1600m (aka 8700GT)

If it just works on M6300 i'm thinking the resale market is small, I couldnt get it to work with my M90 but it may have been "me"

Can anyone confirm it works in M1710 etc?

thanks!

yeah if you ship it to me

The idea is pretty simple:

We need someone with a lot of time on his hands and smart enough to look into the BIOS of the E1705 or M1710 compare it with the one from the M6300. Then figure out how to mod the BIOS of the E1705/M1710 so that they will support the new video card.

And in the process create a mod that completely invalidates the warranty should anything go wrong.

I commonly stay out of situations where I have to toy with code that has already been assembled.

I have an M90 and M6300 that I will play around with this week.

For what its worth, I was able to interchange the lcd panels on the M6300 and a 1705 with no issues at all. The build quality of the M6300 cable and connector from the LCD to the mobo was vastly superior to the one on the 1705.
