So here is the BIG question... Quadro 3600M in a M1710 - Page 3

Yeah i'm calling spare parts today for a refurb 3600M to throw in the M1710 still would like to try the bios I am going to have them send me out a new Motherboard for the M1710 just in case.

What ever you said now is just not making any sense. You said you got both lappy and now you are ordering spare parts. Stop play game around.

It is a simple process of plug in the video car and see if it works or not. If not forget it! Why is this taking you so much time instead of doing it, just keep saying of mod BIO or order spare parts. This is totally BS!!! forget it.

Okay dipshit let me explain this... if you put the card in your M1710 WITHOUT a bios hack nothing will happen to your M1710. However if you flash a damn Santa Rosa bios into your M1710 it will not work no matter what and you will kill your M1710! Got it clear?!?!?

You guys act like this guy is personally insulting you by trying something new out....

It sounds intresting but I doubt IR will ever get to the point of testing it.

A hacked bios isn't easy to get by.
Hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

Btw, force flashing has been tried before to no avail I believe with the M1710 BIOS to the 9400. The force flash just wouldn't carry out. So, the only way I could see you having a shot is with a hacked bios. Hacking the installer worked for the 9300, however, considering now we're talking about different chipsets, it will likely cause major problems.

Anyway, I was just summing up some of the opinions here.

I'm always thinking there's no need to mod a bios.

I have called Dell and I have a 3600M coming and I will try to put it in the laptop on Monday, I will also get some futuremark benchmarks for the M6300 at the same time.

Oh and let's be nice please I have been coming to this forum for years and we really don't need any one being negative, I said I will try and I will.

Also I was part of the original swapping of 6800Ultra's and 7800GTX in the Inspiron 9300. See my thread below for my credability.

That's enough with the name calling. This is your only warning.

Ok. I have an Inspiron 9400/1705 with the latest BIOS. I installed a 3600M direct from Dell. The system boots to windows fine. However, the bios shows it as an unknown video card and the display is so dark, I have to have all lights off. It's like the screen is only showng brightness at level 2.

I installed 3600m driver in windows and it went fine.

does it mean that windows see it as 3600m what about 3dmark ??
can you run tests ??
3dmark sees it as the 3600. I have it running tests now.
just need brightness and then all will be well.

Hmm this BIOS issue sounds familiar. Oh yeah, from when people replaced their LCD's from different generation comptuers. The BIOS just wouldn't recognize the LCD (unless you replaced the LCD inverter too). I don't really see how you're going to get around this problem because I don't see how you'd replace a part on the IC GPU without compromising the card. One option would be to flash the GPU (NOT the system) to make it think it was a different card (risk factor = 0) but I doubt the system bios accesses bits in the GPU rom to interface with the card. Hit me up if you are interested in this and need any help. Even if you are not, it would be nice if you could email me your rom from the 3600M. I could instruct you how to do so if you are unsure.
please instruct me. I would like to try this.
However, if we make the card think it is something else, wouldnt that affect it's performance?
Wow so it fits, and drivers work. From the 3Dmark05it's getting the same performance as a 7950 gtx. Do you know what clocks the 3600m is clocked at currently?

I'm pretty sure the m6300 uses a bigger power brick than the e1705, at least as big as the xps m1710 or bigger. That might be cause for the downclocking and lower performance.

Some benchmarks in 3dmark06 would be nice as well as thats where these cards really shine in.

Finally get pictures up of the entire process, as more people become intrested they'll want to see how you did it.
