should I use recovery console?

In my last thread, I had a problem with XP crashing during install of SP3. It was suggested that I do a complete XP reinstall. Is it possible to use the repair capabilities on the XP CD using the Repair Concole option, or should I just reinstall windows? Part of me wants to attempt this, and, of course, part of me is hesitant. Anyone have any luck with the recovery console, and if so, what steps should I take?

IMO the recovery console has been nothing but a waste of time. I would jusst bite the bullet backup what you can and then wipe the sucker clean.

I just got XP back up and running. I did not do a new install of the OS. And I did not go into Recovery Console. What I did was "Repair" windows. It took about three attempts, mainly because I forgot to remove the CD when it was rebooting, which caused it to start over each time. That was a lesson learned.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I didn't lose anything. All of my desktop icons were where I had them, and all of my preferences remained. The only thing I had to do, so far, was to re-enable the "smart move" for the mouse, and re-install XP updates.
