XPS premuim support = hours waiting dodgy phone line conected to someone who knows nothing about XPS, PC's in general or anything that might actually qualify them as an XPS or PC tech, heck i met random old people that know more then every dell tech i have ever spoken too.
Then you get to be processed by a dell computer system so old it has never yet held the right address even though i correct it every time.

Normal support you get through everytime i tried it to compare to xps support in five minutes then they tell me they cant help me because its an xps.

Oh the engineers that come out to replace the parts for dell are pretty uninformed too.

I mean none of them know about Intel thermal analysis tool, sheesh.

They rely purely on there cd diagnostic disk which is probably the strongest bit of the hole dell experience but is still abit pants not having enough proper stress tests.

But all this means you when you get through you just quot them an error code of the part you want replaced and you just google for the error code or look round here.

in conclusioni always had my parts repalced but it usually took 2 hours of phone hassle and a day in waiting for a the dell plumber :P

Or a Saitek Eclipse II keyboard. It has a smaller profile than the Logitech G15 keyboard. If you don't need all the extra buttons/keys that the G15 has, then the Saitek keyboard is the way to go.

I had also tried Creative's Fatality Keyboard, but I found that the keyboard was too slim (not a high/tall enough profile), and that the combination of the backlight and the transluscent key buttons made it difficult to see the printed letters on the key buttons themselves....rendering any the letters and numbers very difficult to see in the dark. The Fatality keyboard also doesn't have a standard keyboard configuration.
Also, for some stupid reason, they put the on/off button for the light between the space bar and directional keys. I wish they had placed it in an area where it would accidentally be pressed (like the upper right corner). I wouldn't recommend the Fatality keyboard.

I used to work for a Gateway call center, it’s certainly in India now. As soon as we finished helping train them to get started “for night shift” our whole call center was out on the sidewalk.

Though I admit this was a few years ago, I suppose it’s possible they changed it back…?

Has Gateway really gone overseas? If they have I just might cry, Ive given their CS dept so much positive feedback. They even emailed me back to fill out a more detailed survey. I remember one guys name was Ron

For 1710 users with 7950GTXs I still gotta recommend 167.45 nothing beats it so far.
Yeah, I find these to be very stable in Vista. It doesn't allow for overclocking though if you modified the card's bios. Anyone know where I can get an original 7950 GTX bios image?

Was considering....

I was looking into the price of getting a T7600G and a Blu-ray for my m1710. So I called dell asking for a price quote:

Bluray drive: $704.95
T7600G: $954.95

Those prices are not including shipping or taxes. I have the part numbers as well so I do searches online, but its still a lot...so much that I don't even think its worth it....

I guess you pay for everything to be portable :P

you can get both for much less on Ebay, but buying from dell the parts are covered by your laptop warranty - if you have warranty left that is.

I do - just received this notebook on the 2nd of April from Dell. Processor I cant find, but blu-ray I can. Still really expensive though @ $499, so its not even a thought in my mind till the price comes down a lot.

This is from dell parts:

Assembly,Blu-Ray Rewritable 1X,Panasonic,SFX,STB (HM580)
$704.95

Service Kit,Processor,T7600G 2.33,4MB,Napa Refresh Merom Burn 2 (TU191)

You mind if I just merge all of your threads? You've got quite a few... Like I said, slow down on the new thread button.

I've had only good experiences with XPS technical support. Most of my problems have been video card related, so I just take pictures of my screen, post them on my web space, and tell them the website link over the phone. They also have good knowledge of what the blue-screen error codes mean, and don't insist on running the silly Dell diagnostics.

And most importantly, everyone I've talked to sounded like English was their first language.

Well - so far - not so good. I received the other LCD and since the tech was unable to meet me at my workplace, dell sent the LCD to me directly and I installed it. It was a sec3155, compared to my other one which was a shp (not exactly sure what model since I am not near the laptop atm).

Anyway, I installed it and I noticed the display was not correct. It had two black spots on the left side of the display and on top, plus the backlighting was uneven. So another call to dell. I asked for a shp screen (like I had before). She put the order in and I awaited the confirmation to make sure everything was ok. Around 4 hours later I notice the JK624 is back again on the order page (the same sec3155 that I had before). I then called once again thinking I would get the same display, however based on what they told me its "generic" and I could get any display. It is based on what they currently have in stock at this time.

*sigh* I hope everything will be ok this time around... I don't want to get another LCD after this one... Hopefully number 3 is lucky.

I'm going to be selling mine soon, I'd be happy with $600 and its a fully decked out I9300 w/ 7800GTX
post #114 of 117
I will not sell mine, i can play all at high settings except crysis, i will wait one or two years more, the 7800 gtx can do the job.
So good lap

Well - they are going to do a laptop exchange (cause of the continues LCD issues). I am not sure what I will get, or even when I will get it...
