Arctic silver guide

Thread Starter
Does anyone have a guide for applying arctic silver on an 8790? I know there was another thread which did it with a 5680, and I assume the process is very similar, but has anyone done it on an 8790? If so, a guide would be really nice.

I did this mod to my 8790. it's easy. Open up the cover, than you can see the DDR ram and CPU heat spreader. Unscrew the four screws on the copper heat spreader (screw with spring on it). Pull up the heat spreader ( some force is needed). And apply the Arctic silver.

did you remove the thermal paste sticker and clean it up before you put the artic silver? I cleaned up the thermal paste sticker and then apply the arctic silver 5 on.

Ya . We have to clean up the CPU and heat spreader. I clean it with alcohol. I didn't sand it, I think is not needed. After apply the AS5, the temp didn't really get much lower (a little bit), but it does help cool down cpu a lot faster.

I have somthing off topic here. I am playing UT2004 now. But my internet is not fast enough (56.6 k modem). The online game play jerk a lot, it is almost unplayable. I plan to get cable modem (road runner). Any body can tell me it will be fast enough for UT2004?
Thank you.
