T61 Wireless Disconnecting

Thread Starter
I have a T61 type 7658 with the Atheros wireless ABGN card (which Lenovo no longer offers as an option). The wireless disconnects randomly...sometimes for up to 10 seconds. While it always reconnects, it is a major hassle. Lenovo customer service says it must be a configuration issue and not a hardware issue and that they are unable to offer any assistance with software configuration issues. I have Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1 (recently installed which did not help at all). A friend in Florida has a T61 which also disconnects for brief periods of time so I am not alone. My backup laptop is a Lenovo 3000N with XP and it never disconnects (hence it is not my router or wireless signal in my home).

Any advice/assistance would be appreciated!

. reset ur router?
. tried using another channel in the router config?
. disable Lenovo wireless management and leave the control to Windows Zero Configuration services?

The problem happens with two different routers I have (a Linksys G and DLink Draft N) but I have not tried changing thr channel and will try that. I uninstalled Thinkpad Access Connections months ago and use Windows. Thanks for the tips...I just wish I knew if the wireless card itself might be part or all of the problem.

I've got the same frequent disconnect issues with my T61, though I have the Intel wireless 4965 AGN card. I've tried every channel on my router (including B only, G only, N only, and BGN broadcast settings), channel bonding, variations of security protocols (WEP, WPA, WPA2...AES/TKIP, etc.), and of course reset the router and uninstalled the access connections software.

The root of the problem appears to be the WPA and WPA2 protocols. I don't have any disconnect issues when I use WEP...and as unfortunate as this is, it is at least a solution to the greater of two evils--frequent network/internet disconnects.

As a note, this problem does not exist in a linux environment! I can use any WPA or WPA2 security without any disconnecting. I'm running vista and haven't tried troubleshooting this issue with this computer in XP.

Microsoft/Lenovo/Intel....please resolve this issue!!!

I am not sure if WPA is the root of the issue, i did have issues when setting up with WPA, but once it is set and connected, it is solid

Well since we are dealing with totally different chipsets, this probably the most relevant place to post my issue.

However, since its already here, there was just a driver released for the Intel chipset wireless cards (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-70505) that resolved all disconnect issues on my T61 with Vista. For the 4965AGN card the most current driver version is 12.0.0.82

... cheers indeed
