So being the nurotic performance freak i am i have been playing with overclocking settings for my new 8790. The system i have is a 3.2 northwood with a gig of ram and a 7200 rpm (non raid) harddrive. I am also useing the aluminum cooler usrbgeek (or whatever his name is) reccomended. Here are the observations i have thus far;
It seems like the difference between 3.2 and the 3.4, based on compairing my score to Adem's is about 50-100 points on 3dmark 03.
At stock settings i am getting in the mid 3200s with the ati drivers.
At 515 clock 300 ram i am getting in the mid 3800s with the ati drivers.
I have been fooling around with settings to try to figure out the upper limits of this card and was rather plesently suprised. My card runs rock solid at 550 clock 300 ram. You heard me right, no artifacting no major heat spikes, it runs quite nicely.
At 550/300 settings i got 3999 with the ati drivers and 4024 with the omegas. I have been playing farcry for hours on this setting with no problumes at all.
Earlier today i decided to keep pushing my system to see how high it could go. I did this by overclocking in increments of 10 for both the proscessor and ram. It seems like the proscessor will remain stable at 570mhz, but at 580 it becomes unstable. The ram seems stable at 310 mhz but will start to artifact at 320.
At 570/310 i get 4152. I have not done hours of gameing on this setting yet but i will let you all know how it goes. Needless to say i am very very impressed with my sager.
