I've had this computer for 2 months. While in use it keeps shutting down. I'm not talking about the screen just going blank, which is also annoying, but a complete shutdown. I filled out a support form on Acers site. They had listed on the model choices a 5420G, but not a 5420 for Extensa. The website doesn't list either number for Extensa. Was this an old model that Best Buy was trying to get rid of.

So I just got a Lenovo Yoga 13. This is my review. As what I primarily do is writing and programming, having a good keyboard is critical for me, which is why a tablet alone can’t work for me, and...

BIOS update and latest hotfixes/SP1?
Have you tried the latest BIOS update and/or hotfixes/SP1 for Vista? That and updated drivers are where I'd start first. I know that the latest BIOS fixed the 'black screen' issue for many . . .Quote:

To everyone having black screen issues with bios version 1.14 or 1.15, try updating your bios to version 1.16. Please be aware...this is a do it at your own risk solution. If you have a service contract with Best Buy, it will be voided if you have any problems. Directions on how to do this can be found on the following website: http://thoughtsfrommylife.com/articl...een_On_Startup. See Dave41's Feb 29th instructions. I followed the instructions back on March 2nd and have not had one black screen since. I was scared to death when I updated mine, but everything went well with the update. Also note: the bios update is for the Acer Extensa 5420-5687 only. The updates are not found on the US Acer site, but instead on the Europe Acer site.
