Wireless N operating in 802.11b mode?

I just installed a Belkin N1 F5D8001 PCI card. It is being used with a Linksys WRT54G router that operates in 802.11G...so why is the card operating in 802.11b?? Atleast when I go to Properties>configure> it says my 802.11b signal is in long and short range mode...

Also, anyone know a good way to make this card directional?

Thanks for any help.

Also, The card is a Version 1...can I update it to a version 2? I went to Belkin's website and they do not seem to have a firmware upgrade for it. I tried just installing the V2 drivers, but that didn't work.
