If you checked into those NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX benchmarks and felt they met with your high standards, now you can actually get one (or a bunch) into your rig. According to reports, the brain-laser of a graphics card can now be had (in various iterations) for the low, low price of $329.99 (at least from Newegg). And before you ask -- Crysis: Yes. Doom: Yes. Overlords: Welcome. Will blend: Yes. Russia: Benchmarks you.

It's OFFICIALLY 7-10% faster than the G92 8800GTS 512 (stock clocks) with tri-sli capability....for a $100 premium.

This new "GTX" also OFFICIALLY replaces the G92 8800GTS SSC (overclocked) card.

Didn't the reviews that just came out say that tri-sli only gave them like a 1-2% performance increase over standard dual-sli with the same cards?

EDIT: sorry it was 6-7% increase in 3dm06 at 1920x1200. Most of the other tests were basically the same or the gains were smaller, with only one demo showing a significant gain. source

I can Step-Up from my current eVGA GeForce 8800 GT 256MB to the eVGA GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB for $140.83 shipped.

If I were to do it with the GeForce 9800 GX2, it'd be $400.83 shipped.

I need to upgrade my 6800GT here soon.

I know more than a few that will buy three of them to do tri sli just because they can. For that this is the part, all I'm sayin. Mostly a marketing thang the way I see it. I didn't say I would recommend tri sli .

One thing I also might add, as has been mentioned on the Forums here, going for the 8800 GTS 512MB would cost me $160.83 shipped (via my Step-Up). Kinda odd to me, but whatever. lol

Well, look at it this way, you can double performance if you just fill that thing with about 15 cards! Who doesn't have $5000 lying around?

EVGA keeps their prices at retail on their site.

I just bought the GTS from the Egg for $225 (after MIR).

I your case...when you know newer cards will not be out for some time and your step-up will most likely expire, I'd go ahead and get the GTX.

EDIT: That is...if you don't want to wait until June for the R700.

My Step-Up expires now in 30 days, exactly.

Plus, why the hell would I wait for the R700? My (former) username was GeForceTony... I'd be waiting for GT200.

I almost forgot

Anyone else reading that GT200 is a G92 die shrink?

Haven't seen clocks yet - but folks are already calling it a fail.

*reserves judgement until GT200/9900-series true specs are leaked*
