question about canceling order + config check

Thread Starter
Hi everyone.
I planing into buying a t61p in the next days. I see some very good price online so i'm probably going to finally buy a new laptop. But i'm afraid that i make the order and in the next day some better deals take place or that i change my mind. I wanted to know if it was possible to cancel an order if it wasnt shipped yet. the lenovo website is telling me that i will probably have to wait 3 to 4 weeks before they ship the laptop so i wanted to know if between these days i had to opportunity to cancel without being penalised (like when you order from DELL). also, i need to mention that im buying with an EPP account so maybe it's different.

and now i'd like to know if you think that this is a good price for the config. Also, i have to tell you that i'm buying from lenovo CANADA so the price are probably not as good as in the US.
so here it is
t9300 2.5 GHZ 6mb cache
15.4 screen WSGA+ 1600x1020?
fx570m 256mb
4gb RAM
1gb turbocache
160gb 7200rpm
vista ultimate
fingerprint reader
bluetooth
wifi intel 4965 N
smart card reader
dvd rw
9 cell battery
4 YEARS warranty DEPOT

for the 1635$ before taxes

do you think that this is a good price? i didnt found any coupons that work with the canadien EPP website for the moment.

Thanks a lot
ps : sorry for my poor english

. lenovo is consistently a good machine. And sometimes higher price might come with the name and reputation
. T61P is a good machine
. i personally had good experience of rebate/refund when the unit i bought was being offered at a lower price within 1-2 months after the order. U just have to nag the salesperson
. side note, with the CAD > USD - sure u dont want to get the unit shipped from the US? unless the keyboard layout is ur main concern

cheers ...

thanks for your answer,
well i would of have done that if possible, but lenovo US doesnt ship to canada. thats why they made lenovo Canada. What i could do is ship the laptop to my uncle who lives in the US then ask him to send it back to me, but it would be to much hassle and it wouldnt worth it except if i can save important profit.
Do you think i can get the same system in the US for less than 1635$. The canadian for the moment doesnt exceed very much US. in fact just the conversions fees from visa would make me loose more than what i get if i buy in US if it's the same price. how ever does any one know for how much (with all aplicable discounts) i can get a samely configurated system in the US?
THanks

I just bought a T61P this morning..similar config, but I had RAM and hdds from my T60 my dad is buying off me, so I skimped on RAM and hdd.

But, first off:
t9300 2.5 GHZ 6mb cache
15.4 screen WSGA+ 1600x1020? >1680x1050 is WSXGA+ 1920x1200 is WUXGA...which is what I went with.
fx570m 256mb
4gb RAM > Cheaper through Newegg. The upgrade there was $200 or so. I can get 4gb for $80. I opted for the 1gb single stick.
1gb turbocache > Not sure how much good it'll do you with that much RAM....but I bought it too.
160gb 7200rpm
vista ultimate
fingerprint reader
bluetooth
wifi intel 4965 N
smart card reader > Are you actually going to use this? It's not a flash card reader they're talking about, but the cards used for security. I opted for the Expresscard.
dvd rw
9 cell battery
4 YEARS warranty DEPOT

I seriously didnt know what was the difference between smart card and express card, i just tought to myself.. an upgrade for only 20$... why not... hehe ill probably go with the same option as you.
also, can you tell me what price you paid for that system?

also, i was thinking about getting the 1920x1200 but im affraid everything will be way to small for a 15.4 inch screen. but the extra screen estate is very tempting.

i also tought about getting the 4GB from another website, the thing is with the EPP discount the 4gb upgrade cost around 130.. against around 100$ shipping included if i buy from another website. My concern is if i have any problem with the ram (as what a lot of people have been complaining in game mostly when they have 4GB), lenovo want cover me or help me because its a third party hardware. So for around 30$ i could get full lenovo protection on this piece.

anyway thanks again for sharing your opinion/price on your t61p

If you have EPP, then you're probably in better shape than I was. I couldn't use the EPP code any more since I didn't have one, I got 5% off w/ educational. Paid $1900 for basically the same setup (1gb RAM / 80gb / 3 year accidental) after tax.

For the OP... you get 30 days to do a price match, but it looks like you got a pretty good deal.

The shipping dates provided by Lenovo are overly conservative (although I've heard horror stories about Lenovo Canada).

Lastly, you do know that Lenovo only provides the 32 bit version of Vista Ultimate, right? The only 64 bit OS they sell is Vista Business. I only ask because I saw you order 4 Gb of RAM which requires a 64 bit OS (although you can upgrade Ultimate pretty easily later). You may want to reconsider ordering the Turbo memory (check the Lenovo boards for more details).

Nice specs on the order, though. Enjoy!

thanks Mtnbik3r,
I finally ordered the laptop in the beginning of this week. I know that my version of vista only support 3GB but like you said it's possible to upgrade for free to a 64bit version if you have the original product. Also, the system will also take some advantage from the dual channel config if you have 2x 2GB.

For the turbo memory, thank you very much for pointing that out. I just went to the lenovo board and i must say that i hadnt heard of that issue before. I hope i want to much problems with it but it look like the forums gives some good way to fix the problem.

Anyway the support told me i should recieve the system by the 20th of april wich is not that bad considering i've ordered the 2th.

in fact i'll probably take use of the 30 days arrangement if they decide to finally add the option of UWB on the website (ultra wide band) wich look very interresting in my opinion but isn't yet disponible in canada )

thanks again
