Optical drive swap out?

I've got the opportunity to buy a 1420 or 1520 using the latest 30% off coupon. That also means I can upgrade to a Bluray drive for ($400 - 30%) 280 bucks. I'd like to put a BD in my 1730, so if I can I'll buy the BD for the 14/1520 and swap it into my 1730. Is that possible? I know they should have the same connectors and all, but my concern is the front face plate, I could swap the two because the labeling on the front is of no concern to me

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to let anyone who was curious know:
You can swap it out, you just need to keep the original front plate and swap it out with the new drive. It doesn't say DVDBR or whatever on the tray, but it still reads the disks

Sorry I missed this thread, yes the drives are interchangable. Faceplates may not interchange as Dell will source drives from several manufacturers.

I thought the faceplates were standardized pretty much back in 2006. Obviously, I'm not talking about the size of the faceplate, but how it connects to the drive. Now obviously, slot loading drives wouldn't adhere to this.
