SD Card reader - do they work?

I have Inspiron 9300 and my SD Card reader is horrible.

1. Copying/transferring from/to any SD card often results in BSOD under WinXP and Vista

2. Sound is distorted when the device is in use. It feels as if soundcard and the reader use same IRQ or something like that. I would be listening to music and if the reader is in use then a lot of crackling occurs. Its irrelevant whether I use onboard sound or Audigy 2 Notebook PCMCIA sound card.

3. Does it fully support new SDHC?

4. Are there any updates drivers for it?

5. Why is this forum so hard to login into? Any computer I used to login will result in saying INVALID FORUM and then I have to click BACK several times, then refresh, and only then I can post...

For your question 5, what browser are you using, what version is the browser, and what style are you currently using on the forums? (look at the top right hand corner)

I have a 9400 with the card reader and have none of your symptoms. Don't know if it is the same integrated piece or not though.

I use Firefox 2.0.0.13, and I disabled AdBlocks, pop up blocker, and NoScript for this website. I tried IE7 at school and I had the same problem ("Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator" appears after "Thank you forlogging in, MonarchX")

I am using most default style (light style).

Odd, but after I got a BSOD the SD card reader was malfunctioning in device manager, so I reinstalled drivers and Windows installed some STANDARD driver rather than the Ricoh card reader driver.

Well, the Standard driver works like a charm - no noise, no BSOD. PERFECT!

The forum still malfunctions for me though.... could be because my University uses same IP and logs out after a few minutes automatically, but thats after a few minutes...not immediately!

that's a funky occurrence with the sd reader. i've had three of the 17" dells that share that same shape and they'll always worked perfectly with the dell-supplied driver, and never worked at all without it. the e1705 has sdhc, but when i tried to use an older card read with an sdhc card, the whole thing froze
