The Most Amazing Laptop Ever (no, its not what you think it is)

This here be a super cool IBM piece of junk.

The story: my family runs an automotive recycling yard. We got in some kind of service van that had an interior fire. Inside the van was an IBM laptop. It was in a case, which probably kept it from being completely incinerated. However, the flames licked a nice hole in one side of the carry case, so one edge of the laptop got melted a bit. After that, insurance companies take over and it sits in holding lots for 3-6 months before we get it. This is Washington (state) and we get plenty of rain. The day we found it, it was sitting under 3 inches of snow... dripping wet melty snow.

I propped it up and dried it out, figuring to put it on craigslist for a few bucks. My wife decided it would be fun to jump on it a few times... I stopped her at the last second, and decided it would be more fun to see if the thing still worked. The pictures speak for themselves. The hard drive and battery seem to be toasted, but the rest of it looks like it checks out. I have to say, I am 100% amazed with the durability of this computer. IBM, if you want to buy it from me to use in a commercial, that's fine with me. $200,000 please.

I have worked on IBM laptops, they are very well designed and built.

Yeah, one of them seems to have gotten it pretty bad. I'm sure the inside has all kinds of oxidizing and whatnot on it, but I'm not quite curious enough to spend 45 minutes taking it apart.

Lol... Uhm, ok. I can do that tomorrow, even though it seems a little bit goofy.

My R40 took a bad spill off of my bicycle. I ended up with a big lump on my knee that needed to be drained. The laptop was with me in the hospital the whole time.

Knee can grow back. 18 months of Linux development = irreplaceable.
