Well, that ATI spokeswoman interviewed in the video (link above) seemed to indicate "desktop replacement" laptops and "DeskNotes" - we all know what "Desktop Replacement Notebook" is codeword for: SAGER (Clevo)!

WooHoo... hopefully there's enough room in the 56xx/888x's to fit it all in without burning things up.

I think the July date coincides more with the springdale chipset. My take is that clevo is waiting for this chipset and will use this as their launching point for their next real laptop upgrades. (800fsb, dual ddr 400, M10...etc) This is their big update. It's completely possible for them to release an upgraded 5660-5670 with just an M10 update in the mean time. The 9600 is pin compatible with the previous GPU's and running at a lower voltage it should be pretty easy to implement.

So would they release an 888x/5xxxx with just an m10 upgrade a month or so before they release their real major upgrade? It seems more sensible to just wait for the new chipset and throw all your new components in that and dub that your "ultimate" laptop. This is just my guess of course

I agree Vanfanel about Sager wanting to launch with the Springdale chipset, M10, the whole she-bang. But I would think they would want the M10 out asap in order to be competitive instead of waiting...IMHO
post #24 of 63
That totally contradicts the fact that clevo IS a launch partner(this includes every reseller of clevo notebooks, sager, voodoo, hypersonic, alienware, eurocom, just to name a few).
I believe the springdale chip will arrive later this year, around winter i daresay, and the m10 will be with the 8888 models around may-july (ready for shipment).

Thats my guess, based on current info.

Springdale chipset in winter?????
Where did you get this information from?
Everything I have seen point to a Springdale release in May/June..

huh?

Zach, I too heard May/June for the new chipset...And the 8888? Haven't heard of that yet? What's the config on that?
same here. Perhaps he is getting it confused with the mobile springdale equivalent which is expected for the end of the year.
I was talking about the mobile form factor of the chip, not the desktop one, sorry for not mentioning.

More clearly, the sprindale chip in conjuction with the prescott processors in laptops (desknotes) will probably be seen around winter, also since the PRO version of the m10 does not have a date, probably it will be launched in conjuction with the mobile springdale.

I hope i was more clear now.

Hmm...Interesting
Most sites today stated a summer release for the 9600 Pro..
Have you heard differently?
Yes, i have heard the pro isnt scheduled for now, and does not have an exact release date (of course this year). Am i wrong? Maybe my information is incorrect, please tell me if it is.

According to adam the next sager will be based of the Springdale Intel 865PE chipset not the mobile variant (8xxMP or whatever it will be called) The current sager's use the 845E if I'm not mistaken and not the MP variants so it would only seem reasonable to think they'd follow along the "desktop" path.

Ohh...may/june possible launch timeframe for the new m10's...hopefully it will be a 128 mb model because I will definetly contact sager to upgrade my 8886 to the newest mobo and video card version. I think $495 (bought it a few months a go) for that massive upgrade should be worth it.
The pro version of the 9600 will be released in the summer, not winter (like a month extra wait)

unless they have a delay, which they damn better not

I read a report of the MR 9600, in which I'm terribly excited , and found an interesting point.

"Notebooks are increasingly become multimedia stations. Users are using them to watch movies, output to TVs, and capture videos. TV tuners are becoming popular in notebooks and ATI is working with OEMs to implement this well. The MR 9600 has the usual H/W Video decoding and de-blocking and MPEG encode acceleration to assist in recording and timeshifting. Finally another mobile first, the MR 9600 has HDTV output. A HDTV component adapter has the option of being included in the notebook package."

So does the 9600 have an intergrated TV tuner?
A feature article on the Ati website does already state it has a TV-out encoder. http://mirror.ati.com/technology/har.../features.html Will there be a need for the tuner shipped with the 888x series? Which do you think would be a better card, the one from Avermedia, or Ati? Will this intergrated tuner leave a spot open for something like another hard drive?

To add to our ideas of when this thing is coming out, this is from another preview I read: "ATI claims that the 9600 family will ship to notebook manufacturers in April, emerging in retail products a month later."

Maybe we should ask Adam to put in a "Coming Sooner or Later" type category in these Forums so we can have a colloection of to-be released products and announcements (well, different than announcements that actually announce availability).

STATEMENT TO ALL THOSE WAITING FOR THE NEW LAPTOP :

NeoCore tried to set up a news section - it could have answered a lot of these questions. But the point of the forums is to ask Q's and just create a lot if interest and hype

My statement to all the people waiting for the new laptops :-
_________________________________________________

If Sager come out with a model with the M-10 but without the Springdale Chipset and revised DDR Ram then it will be a terrible waste. I am not sure the Dell 8500 will cut the bill...

Processor: Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 up to 2.40 GHZ. The Intel 845MP chipset is optimized for use with the Mobile Pentium 4 processors and ratchets the Processor Support Bus (PSB) to 400MHz.
The chipset will probably be ok but cannot stand up to a 800Mhs FSB unless Dell plans to revise this as soon as the new one is available.

Display: Stunning viewing area with the new 15.4" Wide Aspect, UltraSharpTM displays at WSXGA+ and WUXGA. Wide Aspect displays deliver impressive DVD viewing and additional screen area for increased productivity.[br]
This is an attractive feature no doubt. DVD's will look fantastic on this screen.

Video Graphics: Leading edge video graphics featured in the 32MB ATI MOBILITYTM RADEONTM 9000, and NVIDIA® GeForce4TM 4200 Go for crisp imaging and improved streaming video.
Nice call here - only - is the 4200 Go up to the M-10 ?? Or will Dell replace this as an upgrade to the FX series for the current customers??

Media Bay Options: Dual-purpose CDRW + DVD Combo Drive comes standard with the Inspiron 8500. Eliminate the need for multiple bays, watch DVD movies and burn music in one simple bay. Or, add a 2nd Battery and stay at work or play longer.

Storage: Hard drives up to 60GB to meet your storage requirements.
Unless these are 7200 rpm or faster everything above will be effectively smothered. I think performance potential will be cut down by 30% if these are 5400 rpm drives!!

Memory: Up to 2GB of memory give you excellent overall performance.
Anyone wanna pay for this ?? LOL : Unless DELL is ok with you swapping memory on your own (I THINK NOT) then you are going to be paying enormous amounts, ridiculous sum IMO, for the RAM

[b]Wireless Connectivity Solutions: Integrated Dual-Band (802.11a/b) antenna that supports wireless connections to both 802.11b (11Mbps), 802.11g (54Mps) and 802.11a (54 Mbps) Wi-Fi networks when combined with wireless card. Optional Internal Dell TrueMobileTM 1300 802.11b/g (54Mbps) wireless card and optional Dell TrueMobile 1184 Wireless Broadband Router allow for internet connectivity anywhere in your home.[b]
Very nice feature but I expect this to be standard with all manufacturers so its nothing special IMO

Height and Weight: As light as 6.9 lbs3 with travel airbay module and 72-WHr battery.
"as light as 6.9lbs" ??? ha ha ha! Still lighter than a Sager 5660 but not by much. Remove the FDD and second Battery in the 5660 and it will drop to 7lbs too!! The Dell doesnt have FDD anyway and second battery is optional

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So...It is critical that Sager does not rush out with a laptop to keep up with the Dell at the moment. Dell will lead till June. Once the Sager with HT, 7200rpm or faster HDD, Faster RAM, 800Mhz FSB, ATI M-10 128MB etc. anything within a 10 mile radius will be comprehensively annihilated!!!
Anything coming before that will be a joke. Anything other than that with the M-10 will be a farce!!
yea gs, though I think dell will support the m10 as well.

still it wont do much good if they keep those stupid mobile p4's or pentium m's with the prescote and springsdale/dual channel 400 ram coming out lol. I'll laugh if they dont have something to tarnish the sager name when all this stuff explodes.

will be funny indeed, not for sager though
