Which Card for my Home computer

Okay here goes: I have a GeForce 3 Ti500 with 64 meg of ram. To date it has been doing a fine job with FS2K2. (Anywhere from 25 FPS to 12 FPS depending) However, greed and the need to make some of my other games run quicker (read HALO) has made me go out and buy a new card.
Now mind you, I dont have the fastest computer in the world. (I run a P3 1Ghz system with 384 Meg RDRAM 180 Gig HD) It does a nice job with FS2K2 though, so I dont really need to up the system specs.

Now for the question: I just went to best buy and saw a 128Meg EVGA.com NVidia GeForceFX 5200 with 128 DDR Ram AGP 8x/4x for $99 bucks with a 10$ mail in rebate. Is this a good card to get? Will it speed up FS2K2 at all from my GeForce3 Ti500?

Also, Being inquisitive, I went online and saw this: Apollo Geforce FX 5200 with 256 Meg of RAM for only $87 at New Egg!!! Is this a no brainer, should I get that one instead? Does anyone here have either card, and if you do can you provide some input!?

Thanks,

Awaiting your responses,

Corey

Asking about nVidia cards for a desktop PC in a Sager forum probably isn't going to get you too far.

You might want to try asking in the Off Topic->Desktops forum.

Search the internet. Start with Tomshardware, Anandtech, Hardocp and see if they have archived articles on the cards you are considering and/or video card guides..

The FX5200 series was overall rated very poorly. You'd probably be better off just purchasing a GF4 Ti42/44/4600, as they all give equal or better performance. The FX57/5900 will give you a significant jump over the 5200 and the GF4 Ti series.

Another point as I just saw your ram. That could also definitely be a bottleneck. I would reccommend upgrading to 512 ot 1gb, although you list it as rdram which is hella expensive because of its short production lifespan.

If you're buying a video card you might as well really step up to bat.

Why not opt for a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro or XT.

Pro is around $220 on Newegg right now and would be a definite step up from that Geforce3 card you have.

Don't bother with Radeon 9800 Pros or XTs, those will drop in price very soon.

As for your Geforce, GIVE IT TO ME!! The Geforce 3 Ti500 is awesome. It is equal or BETTER than the FX5200.

And uh, I think you should either wait a bit or upgrade your entire system. It looks really old... (and do you even have AGP4X slot?)

try thr 9600xt sharkyextreme rated it as one of the best...and if your a nvidia guy, the reviews for the 5700 show it to be better than 9600 and they are both within 150-200 range and would give u way better performance than 5200
