Memrom vs Santa Rosa?

Hi guys,

Looking at purchasing an Outlet XPS m1330, since I can't afford it otherwise. The processor is the T7500 2.2 Ghz, 4MB cache. Does anyone is this a Santa Rosa chip, since these chips are supposed to be better than Memrom.

Thanks,
B

Ooops! Part of my message got left out! I wanted to know if there is a really a big difference between the Memrom-type Core 2 Duo chips and the Santa Rosa version, in terms of performance and battery life. Sorry, I was very sleepy when I posted.

Santa Rosa describes the PLATFORM (Merom(65nm)/Penryn(45nm) CPU, PM/GM965 chipset, 4965AGN Wireless).

My guess is you're asking the difference between Merom (T5xxx and T/X7xxx models) and Penryn (T8xxx and T/X9xxx models). In that case, go for the latter. A bit better performance, runs cooler, and uses less power.

Note, however, that the OP said price was a concern. I don't think you'll see much real world difference between a T7500 and a T8300, for example, and the upgrade could cost $50-$100+. You'll be happy with the T7500, is my hunch.

Went ahead and decked out my laptop with t9300. I had the cash available, so I figured why not

I decided on the M1530 after using my brother's 13" Macbook and deciding it was too small for me: I'm 6' 3" and I had to practically bend over to see the screen. A 15.4" is a much better fit for me

Probably not performance wise, but definitely in heat and power consumption.
