My battery just gave up this past week and I have been doing some checking on the availability of a replacement unit. Windows xpsp2, pentium M, 1.86 and RAM 512 which is the Max for this older but very reliable unit.
There is a Notebook store where I pick up all of my additions to the different models of notebooks that we have here and I phoned them and they said it would be $59 cdn plus tax and would be a generic battery that they stock. I have been dealing with the store for some 2 years now and have had no issues.
However when it comes to batteries they are different than accessories and so I thought that I should post. I contacted an outlet that is a battery specialized store for phones, camcorders, digi cams etc., also whom I have dealt with over the many years as I have 3 camcorders and several cordless phones.
When I was talking to the owner whom I have gotten to know over the years he said the price for a "toshiba 2400" model battery would be $91 cdn and comes with the same warranty as the earlier mentioned one.
He said that his model is a "4400"....I don't know if that is the mah???
Neither of course are the Toshiba battery and I just wondered if anyone here knows how I tell what the notebook has in it ? I can't seem to slide it out of the bottom plastic cover and am afraid to break anything.
The battery compartment removes easily enough, it is simply not that easy to pull/push to get the battery out.
I just wondered if there is a difference in performance quality between batteries and what number and where that would be so that I put back in the same spec's.
Both places told me that I should fully charge the battery and then let it run down to 15%......I am not sure if that percentage shows in the Task Bar...I am sure that it must. I don't use the battery that often, but would want to get a decent one if I am going to spend the money.
This 2410 does not get that much use as we have newer ones, however it is a great pentium M work horse !!!
All comments would be appreciated re the Specs and best performing battery and longevity of life.
I want to buy it local and not over the Internet as we don't do internet purchases so I would simply really appreciate a knowledgeable owner/user of a Satellite 2410. Both stores said the batteries were made for the Satellite 2400 series.
Again your time and comments on my dilemma would be appreciated.
BTW, I imagine after the battery is rundown and recharged per the instructions above that I should keep it plugged in or I will cause loss of battery life much sooner. It is the "cmos"....the date and time that flashed on the screen for me to set and so that is why I decided to post and get comments from the Experts here.
I have had no experience with replacing batteries at all and know that I should not simply go out and shell out $ for something I know nothing about.
Cheers!
