Toshiba 2410 notebook battery???

My battery just gave up this past week and I have been doing some checking on the availability of a replacement unit. Windows xpsp2, pentium M, 1.86 and RAM 512 which is the Max for this older but very reliable unit.

There is a Notebook store where I pick up all of my additions to the different models of notebooks that we have here and I phoned them and they said it would be $59 cdn plus tax and would be a generic battery that they stock. I have been dealing with the store for some 2 years now and have had no issues.

However when it comes to batteries they are different than accessories and so I thought that I should post. I contacted an outlet that is a battery specialized store for phones, camcorders, digi cams etc., also whom I have dealt with over the many years as I have 3 camcorders and several cordless phones.
When I was talking to the owner whom I have gotten to know over the years he said the price for a "toshiba 2400" model battery would be $91 cdn and comes with the same warranty as the earlier mentioned one.
He said that his model is a "4400"....I don't know if that is the mah???

Neither of course are the Toshiba battery and I just wondered if anyone here knows how I tell what the notebook has in it ? I can't seem to slide it out of the bottom plastic cover and am afraid to break anything.
The battery compartment removes easily enough, it is simply not that easy to pull/push to get the battery out.

I just wondered if there is a difference in performance quality between batteries and what number and where that would be so that I put back in the same spec's.

Both places told me that I should fully charge the battery and then let it run down to 15%......I am not sure if that percentage shows in the Task Bar...I am sure that it must. I don't use the battery that often, but would want to get a decent one if I am going to spend the money.
This 2410 does not get that much use as we have newer ones, however it is a great pentium M work horse !!!

All comments would be appreciated re the Specs and best performing battery and longevity of life.

I want to buy it local and not over the Internet as we don't do internet purchases so I would simply really appreciate a knowledgeable owner/user of a Satellite 2410. Both stores said the batteries were made for the Satellite 2400 series.
Again your time and comments on my dilemma would be appreciated.

BTW, I imagine after the battery is rundown and recharged per the instructions above that I should keep it plugged in or I will cause loss of battery life much sooner. It is the "cmos"....the date and time that flashed on the screen for me to set and so that is why I decided to post and get comments from the Experts here.
I have had no experience with replacing batteries at all and know that I should not simply go out and shell out $ for something I know nothing about.
Cheers!

Dont know why you should be having problems looking at the one in the laptop now. Just make sure the sliding lock switch is moved to the full extent in the opposite direction and the lid should almost pop off.
I did a google search for "Toshiba satellite 2410 replacement battery specs"
and got CL-4400B
Li-ION 10.8V 4500Mah
also there were plenty of online sites with more info.
Li-Ion batteries are definately preferable over the Ni-cad asthe Li-ion do not develop memories of partial charges as the Ni-cads do.
Just check around online

Thx, I went out shopping today and went to the battery store that I purchase my batteries for my several camcorders and they share the premises with a computer shop and the 4500 mah battery was indeed $99 and a generic li-ion. I then went to the Laptop store a couple of blocks from me and the 4500 mah battery that they had was $59 all cdn currency and both Generics with a 1 year warranty.
The battery life on both was said to be the same as on the current one that I have in my 2410 notebook, .. 2 to 3 hours.
Since there appears to be no difference...simply the price of the battery store is very high and also a no name brand is there something else that I should be looking for? Both are li-ion.
I am a first time buyer of a replacement battery and thus thought I would ask.
Thank you for your time.
BTW, both batteries look the same to me.
Comments would be appreciated. I asked the manager at the Battery store that I deal with and he simply said that is the cost of the battery to them and he was rather surprised that the Laptop store battery was $59 cdn.
Could it be refurbished and if so, is that an issue?
There is a 1 year warranty on it and I have been dealing with the shop for some years now and they have been very good. They have several outlets here in British Columbia and in Ontario.

Like I mentioned, just make sure the inputs and output numbers(power) match what you have now. Nothing else to look for other than the fit. Go with the cheaper. Replacement batteries sometimes fit more than just one particular model

All you have to do is make sure that every specification of the battery matches the battery you would like to replace and that it fits in your computer. As for the cheaper battery, I would assume that it is cheaper because that paticular store may have ordered a larger quantity or just gets it supplys some were else, considering it is exactly the same as the other store.
