Athlon 64 X2 5200+ strange core temps

Ok, so I have a Athlon 64 X2 5200+, and as I type right now, one core is around 100 degrees fahrenheit, and the other one is around 120. Now, are the cores suppose to be that different? That seems a little odd that one core would be 20 degrees hotter than the other.

What are you using to measure temps?

To get the seperate core temps I'm using core temp and pc wizard 2007, I also have a temp prob inside my case on the CPU

reseat the cpu block, don't forget to clean off the old tim and apply a small amount, about the size of grain of rice.

report back with the new temps.

And make sure you're using the latest version of Core Temp.

Kk, will do

Ok, I reset the water block, applied new thermal compond, and replaced the water in my system, and so far it seems to be running cooler than it was. Would help if it didn't feel like it was 5000 degrees in my room to.

And just another thought. Core Temp is reporting one core at 102 degrees F and the other one at 118, but when I touch the water block on the CPU it's barely warm, and when I touch the tubing with the water in it, it's like lukewarm, nowhere near the temps that are being reported. I'm thinking that I got some bad temp diods on my CPU. Oh well, as long as it runs fine and doesn't crash I don't care.

There is a problem with the reported temps if they're that high.

I would look for another temperature monitoring app that is best suited for AMD. I can't think of one off the top of my head...sorry.

This comes from uneven surfaces, bad temp sensors and incorrectly applied thermal compound.

Though 100 - 118*F is only like 35 - 50*C which isn't "that" hot in my opinion, especially for an overclocked X2.If it was in the high 50s or 60s then I'd be worried.

Try lapping your heatsink/hsf and properly applying AS5 to it, should drop those temps a good 5*

edit
Just realized your running a water cooler. That is a bit weird. What are your stock clocks and what do you have it overclocked to?
