Dell/Alienware Buyout Repercussions - Page 2

Well I dont hink many have really mentioned it but....

The merger was sold to customers as leveraging Dell's size and prowess, which should have meant reduced supply chain issues, faster to market, faster to ship, lower pricing etc etc.

Well we are well into the marriage, the honeymoon is over, and by the lack of the 15 and 17x models they announced, it is painfully clear that the merger is not meeting expectations, well at least mine.

lack of 15 inch notebooks?
it would be stupid to have many 15 and 17 inch notebooks since alienware is about gaming... and you can only change certain things between computers... alienware doesnt do cheap laptops like dell does that have nothing in them worth anything...

Dell computers aren't bad ... just not the same as Alienware. Some would say that's a good thing, but most of us here like Aliens.

Clearly, there are issues with either the technology or the component availability with the new 17" notebooks, or they'd be out by now - so better to wait til they are ready. I imagine the m15x is selling well, and it's good to see that AW has been upfront about fixing the downclocking issues. So they haven't released skullcap or black yet? Maybe they figure they've got enough to deal with given the current offerings.

Who knows? Maybe Alienware will ultimately be totally swallowed up by Dell, we'll just have to wait and see...

It's gotta be selling well. They wouldn't take forever to ship them if they didn't have orders up their bum.

There may be problems with the m17x that we don't know about. Time will only tell...

Cmon now, if AW and Dell had their stuff together right now we would be seeing both skullcap and ripley in 15 and 17, multiple color options, and possibly a third laptop not in the 15x/17x line as they have done in the past. Right now they have a Uber Old 9750 and a customization castrated 15x.

There is obviously issues.

Uber Old?? Its less than a year old.... and it will serve as the 17 inch notebook until AW is ready...

Theres nothing obvious about it. Just ridiculous speculation.

Lets see NO 17" SantaRosa a year after other makers hmmmm, yeah just speculation.....

Even if AW were to release the 17x santa rosa today, others are poised to move to Montevina in the next couple months.

AW a gaming laptop, but not 17" santa rosa yeah but its not old *cough

Maybe they're skipping Santa Rosa all together? There's tons of reasons why they haven't released it. But lets all jump to conclusions still...
alienware is most of the time not the first to the market with new technology if people knew the company then they would know this and not bring up why they dont have something out... they will release it when they are ready...also the m9750 still kicks everything that I throw at mine so I wouldnt call it out of date...
The only conclusion I jumped to is they are having issues, I cannot reasonably believe that if there were no issues they would not have a full line of laptops available.....

Seems like a good question for

Since when has AW released a laptop on every chipset? And when were they ever the first? IMO they're trying darn hard not to have a repeat 7700 laptop. I love mine to death, but geez they aren't reliable.....
i totally agree with you BFisch06... it would be terrible if the m15x turned into the m7700 issues...bad for the company...I would rather wait for a stable laptop then have one that killed over all the time... people are way to impatient today and want everything right now and then if they dont get it they get mad and fuss about it...
you're exactly right littlefrankus - the world doesn't want to wait, yet demands stability and perfection. Nothing wrong with that, some people just don't always take note of that fact.
Either way, the Dell aquisition was alluded to help with this type of situation and it hasn't.....yet.....
as long as alienware is still considered a separate company to dell not much is going to change....

Oh how I disagree!!!

Alot has changed!!! You may not see it, but LOTS of things change when a multi hundred million dollar company is wholly purchased by another.

As a consumer you may not see them, but there are changes a plenty, and it could be the growing/merging pains that are causing the skimpy laptop lineup above and beyond any supply or funding issues.....
were are you getting ur info because im not finding it in the company reports or conference calls each quarter...you should read and listen to the company reports that are released each quarter its so dry and 80 pages long.... also they had a good laptop lineup when they had the m5500 and the m9700 and the mALX and the m9750 that was on its way but because of chassis issues it delayed the release of it and that was when dell owned them...i have no doubt they are either researching the new laptops or they have decided to take the new computers a new way and skip a platform...
