Quick CPU speed clock questions

Thread Starter
What do you run your CPU at 24/7 and what board and ram did you use to get it?

I'm looking at Q6600 and E8400, and just air cooled

Is it 3.2-3.4?

I mean I am looking seriously here and I can't seem to see much increase for a more expensive motherboard/ram (yes I'm all over the shop now)

thinking of p35 and q6600 with good air cooler and an ATIx2 card, and spend the rest on LCD. I don't want to start looking at more expensive CPUs and would probably not upgrade this build. Not even much of a gamer, the GPU is for multiple monitors and casual gaming

I don't have either yet... But from what I've read, 3.4-3.6 should be easy on air with the Q6600. With the E8400 some people are getting stable overclocks on air over 4G.

If you do lots of cpu intensive stuff, the Q6600 would work better due to the quad cores if your software is multi-threaded. For gaming, I believe the fastest clocks is what you're after. Games don't yet benefit from more than two cores, though that may change soon...

I started looking for a P35/Q6600 setup, but I'm most concerned with optimizing games, so I ended up with an X48/E8400 setup.

Just like HH said....Q6600 is very stable on air @ 3.6.

As far as the E8400 goes - 4.0-4.2 seems to be stable, but the jury is still out on lifespan degradation.

Not too sure if I'd go w/P35 with all of the newer chipsets out now - but it's still a good chipset.
