7700 Freezing Issues

Hi people,

I have been having issues with my 7700 for quite some time now, i have been able to deal with them but now they are getting a bit too frustrating. My system freezes in many different instances and I am not sure why.

I have used virus scanning/malware scanning software, and when doing a deep scan, my computer freezes at some point.

I have also tried backing up data to an external hard drive. But some files on my pc constantly make it freeze when i try to copy them. It freezes at the same exact point when transferring these certain files, but when i try other sets of files they work fine. It just consistantly freezes on these same trouble spots every time.

And now my system is freezing when i am booting up windows. On the XP loading screen, it freezes.

In every one of these cases, the system completely freezes up, and the hard drive light on my machine is on.

I have tried memory diagnostics to see if it was the RAM, but that came up clean. I have tried hdd diagnostics and it finds no errors. Could this be the raid controller having issues? could i have some bad sectors on my hdd that is casing the problem? Please if anyone has any insights into the issue, or if you need anymore info from me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the help.

Tony

could have a bad sector but the hard drive dignostic should have picked those up...those files that wont copy maybe corrupt and causing the freeze...

I'm having freezing issues with my M7700 too. I was told today to try booting with the XP recovery CD. I'm not sure if that'll work but it's worth a try.

Sounds like something is overheating by the time your laptop posts and starts to boot XP. Could be the O/S so troubleshoot software side before you troubleshoot hardware side.

Can you sit in BIOS for a few minutes? That will give you an idea if its Windows or overheating...

I've been having these same issues with my 7700. I've replaced the HDs with sata ones, and tried imaging the drives from external enclosures onto other 2.5" HDs and used those to the same results. It looks like the same issue that's caused me to send my system in 2 times already to have the motherboard replaced (It stopped charging/running off of battery over a year ago, but every time I send it in, it comes back with a screen with more dead pixels than I sent it in with, so I'm hesitant to send it in again). In my case, the motherboard keeps failing in the VRM area, and the problems cascade leading finally to the failure of the HD controller. If you have another system available, I'd recommend purchasing an external HD case to backup your drives.
