I have read support on here and I think that I qualify under the "get a new motherboard" category but I want to double check.
I have an Alienware M9700 (motherboard version: D500) that won't turn on correctly. When I have the bettery unplugged and plug in the power cord the HDD spins up and it seems like power goes everywhere it's just nothing displays on the screen. The machine also won't turn off until I manually uplug the cable. Same thing if I put in the battery, it turns on as soon as it has power (I don't have to push the power button) and won't turn off until either the battery dies or I unplug the battery. It does turn on sometimes (every 30 or so attempts) and loads up just fine but heats up extremely quickly & I am forced to turn it off for fear of damaging chipsets.
My main questions are why would it turn on sometimes? How come power goes everywhere but no display sometimes? Could it be bad GFX cards or monitor? With the heating problem I went ahead and bought AC5 to put on there but am not gonna do that until I get some thoughts from you all.
Thanks,
Ethan
