Inspiron 9100 Duo- Boot problems (try to find Dell Inspiron XPS and Inspiron 9100 Service Manual). I have image of the machine apart. My stop booting doing exactly what is described here. Light flash and nothing happens.
In its wisdom and knowing the extreme heat of processor added to the machine, Dell buried the CPU as deep as possible. If the machine has been used extensively specially for gaming, the processor heat sink and heat paste are not doing their job.
1) It takes hours to get to the CPU, unless you have removed the case a few times (label all screws or put them back as you take them off).
2) If you pull the heat sink assembly without loosing the CPU lock, and as in my case the paste was solid (gluing the CPU to the heat sink), the pins will be bent and the machine won't boot either (this took three hours to fix).
3) Use fine steel wool and clean metal surfaces of where the paste was dry. Replace paste and work backwards.
4) Make sure that all cables/ribbons are set/reset, same for HD, (BATTERY!) and RAM.
It should start. Good luck.
