AmiloPRO v3205 - SATA 3.0GB/s.

Hi,

I have a AmiloPRO v3205 with 2GB ram and I jus wanted to bump up the HDD on it to a 200GB Seagate 7200 RPM 3.0GBps SATA.

My question is will I get the 3 GBPS or will I be bumped down to 1.5 Gbps? The chipset on the Siemens is Intel 945GM.

I need to know cause I am about to mail order the drive from US and cannot send it back once it is here in UAE. So PLEASE help me.

Falconeer.

i m not sure if the chipset has anything to do with the drive's speed. Size, maybe?

Hi, yes you are right, the chipset does not have anything directly to do with the drive's speed. But it has something to do with the data-transfer rates. Some of the chipsets will not accept the 3 Gbps and will bump it down to 1.5 gbps or you have to manually do so using the jumpers or some other means on the drive.

u mean FSB influencce in data transfer ...

personally difference between 3.0 and 1.5gb is a moot point at this moment since sustained transfer rates have yet to exceed 150 MB/s (or even 100 MB/s), the limit for the 1.5Gbps drives. Simply saying the transfer rates for the 1.5Gbps drives aren't bottlenecking their performance, so a 3.0Gbps drive won't show any performance increase in this area

but 3.0 drive seemed to be built better

you will get 3 GBPS in uae itself - you dont have to order it from america. If it is for seimens - then you can order it directly from the seimens dealers in uae.
