I have admired this notebook for some time and now that Alienware has finally dropped the price to a reasonable level I just ordered one.
System as ordered:

Alienware MALX:

Video/Graphics Card:
Dual 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GTX
Display:
19" WideSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 LCD
With Built-In 1.3 MP Camera
Processor:
AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile ML44 2.4Ghz 800MHz FSB
Memory:
2GB Dual Channel DDR SO-DIMM at 400 MHz — 2 X 1024MB
System Drive:
200GB 7,200 RPM (8MB Cache) Hard Drive
Wireless Network Card:
Internal 802.11b/g WiFi Card
Operating System (Office software not included):
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
Optical Drives:
8X Dual Layer CD-RW/DVD±RW Burner
Sound Card:
High Definition Audio with Surround Sound
Communications:
Integrated Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45
56K V.92 modem RJ-11
Extra Battery

Total out the door price was 2499.80

I purchased the backpack on their Ebay outlet store for 52.00. Plus as an added incentive I get to use their money for a year. What I like about this system is it is very similar in specifications to my desktop in my signature, also nothing beats screen realestate so 19" is nice. I know this is a beast of a machine to carry arround but most times I will just set it on a desk wherever i need it to be and use it. They tell me it will be at my house by the end of the month... we will see about that. As soon as I recieve it I will give an in depth review of it.

no bursting of bubbles here, I fully realize it will not be.

Hey, it won't be as fast. But, as long as you get what you want. Oh, and congrats!

Congrats!
You saved about $1000 off the original price!

Actually when I first looked at this system base started at just under 4 grand, then with all the bells and whistles it came to a little under 6 grand. Now of course that was with the bigger video cards, raid 0 setup (which im planning on doing after I get this) and blue ray dvd drive. I know its not the top end system but I am certain this will do everything i need it for now and some time from now. It will surely make my old retired 766 look quite slow

Nice one mate

What confuses me is that Alienware no longer support the mALX.....but they are still selling it?!?!??

Hope you bought the longest warrenty you could!

It comes with a 90-day limited warranty.

Yes only 90 days, but the ALX department will still support this machine, unfortunatly after the 90 days I will have to pay for any service they provide. I will though, before that 90 days is over, put this machine through every possible stress test I can come up with. Hopefully if anything is to be wrong with it, it will happen within that time. My first machine was a 766 and even though at the time I purchased it, everyone was complaining about the issues it was having, I have to say the machine has worked flawlessley since day 1. My desktop has also been completely trouble free since the day I purchased it. Alienware, at least for me, has been an excellent company both in their products and their service (I have used them a few times for issues that were fixable on my end). Hopefully their estimates are correct and I will have this beast of a laptop in my hands before the end of the month. Oh I did get a small suprise when I talked to them today, I will be getting XP Pro vs XP media (yes small but very good news to me).

They are selling off old stock. What suprised me is they are actually building this machine, not just sending me one that was returned.

Awesome, I still would like one - what a jaw dropper when you pull it out of that backpack

I wonder why they don't advertise this more.

Hehe, probably because gauging by all the latest mALX related threads the motherboards on them are dying after about 18months

Should be getting mine back next week some time with a nice new motherboard in it

You'll love the mALX mate, mine gave me no trouble at all until the mobo buggerd up, and I've been known to abuse it

sorry to say this but i hate my mALX, nothing but trouble... crashing hardrives, overheating issues... sending back and forth all the time, 3 month late etc.

Still, i might get €2000 for it, so its not bad ^^

Sorry to hear that Lakrisal, but I have noticed that even with the new M15x, there seem to be some issues. I am hoping that mine will have most of them worked out. I recieved my MALX today and was very suprised. Instead of the two 256 meg 7900 gtx, they sent me two 7950 gtx 512 megs. Also as I noted earlier they gave me XP Pro instead of media center. I spoke to the ALX people today and I am going to be upgrading my warranty to one year instead of the 90 days. Hopefully I wont need this but it does not hurt to be safe. The only bad thing so far was they forgot to send me my power supply! Fortunatly, they are overnighting me one so I will have it tommorow morning. The battery gave me about a half hour to play arround with it, but was not able to really put it to the test. I must say this is one HUGE machine and the screen size is great. I will post some pictures and some bench marks tommorow after I recieve my power supply. This will be my 3rd Alienware laptop and my 4th alienware product overall, and so far for me at least, I have had very good luck with all of them.

Oh as a footnote, I looked everywhere for a cooler to fit this beast and was unable to find one, so I am going to fabricate one. I have read that elevating these high performance laptops about 2 inches from the desktop really helps the internal fans, so I got a wire basket from office depot and will use that to elevate the MALX. Also, I noticed that a standard laptop cooler will fit under the basket so if needed i can still use that to push air (vantec cooler with fans reversed) into the bottom of the laptop. Overheating seems to be one of the biggest issues with this beast, so hopefully my idea will help keep it cooler. I will post pictures of this as well but dont expect anything polished (insert Sanford and Son music here)

Try nzxt they are supposed to have a laptop cooler for 17 and 19 inch laptops mine should arrive next week they run about 69 dollars or so Ive already seen them on ebay. I love my malx ordered mine in march got it in Apr Doa and had to send it back, they fixed it and it lasted about 2 1/2 weeks and the ac adpater conked out, sent it back again. Been okay since then. Ill say this if it wasnt for the cust service Id be pissed, but its so good I can evn be mad yet.
