T61p ram upgrade???

I guys,

this is my first post here. I just ended up ordering a 14.1 inch T61p with 1gb DDR2 ram (1 Dim) [rest of the config: t8300, 160gb 7200rpm HD, Nvidia 570 128mb graphics... etc, xp pro]

I want to add another 2 gb from my self....

1. is it something that can be done easily done ? .. i am not a computer geek. can someone run me thru it??

2. does it matter which one i put. I can get a 2 gb ram for 30-40 bucks on newegg... Gskill, kingston ??? does cas latency play any part?? Does it matter if it is different from the one that comes preinstalled from factory in terms of cas latency etc???

best place to download the manual to walk u thru the ram upgrade

dowload CPU-Z ( http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php ) and get the module with the same specs shown. Price does not play a role, but sometimes brand names do

FWIW if one's running a 32-bit OS, a late model ThinkPad like the T6x series can't use all 4GB. That said I'm running a 2GB stick of OCZ RAM in my T60 that works perfectly with the factory installed 1GB stick of Hynix RAM for 3GB total.

I have a T61 and just upgraded the RAM last night (from 2 megs to 3 megs).


It's very easy to do....there are 4 screws on the bottom of the laptop (they have a little memory chip logo beside them). Close the lid of the laptop, take out the battery, remove the power plug, remove the 4 screws, flip the laptop over and open teh screen and lift up the palmrest, and it will expose the ram. Install the chip and reverse the steps.

It took me about 10 mins in total
