do you really want amd? you can get a q6600 for $199 at frys right now.

I don't think there is a reason to buy amd right now, unless you are that loyal to the brand.

everything else looks fine. maybe get an 8800gt instead. my evga came out to be 169-159 with mir. im posting on my phone so I can't check on somethings but, that 8800gt would offer you better performance.

I am getting everything from newegg in one shot. I wasn't impressed with intel quads and for MOBO and CPU AMD is cheaper total price unless you see something I am missing. I am going for cheaper overall this isn't going to be a GBQ, Shazza, HH, or Steve build. I was looking at the 8800gt but they are almost a hundred more so its not worth it for me. I would like to see what you can come up with for intel mobo/cpu under 300 though. (If you have time)

8800GT for 159 after mir.

firingsquad
overclockersclub
guru3d

only 20 bucks more for up to 50% more fps.

I dunno.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136038
dfi bloodiron 129.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037
E8400 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache - 209.99
Q6600 can be had for 234 on newegg.

or even the E8200 would be better for 179.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...5047&Tpk=e8200

E8200 vs AMD 9550

So E8200 for 180 and the dfi bloodiron for 130.
Can't beat that for 310.

I agree. Intel is the correct direction right now.

I'm actually reconsidering my build right now. Not getting the Aw anymore.

You can still get great performance from a cpu for 179. Just look at that E8200 beating the crap out of the Q6600.

I'm just saying you don't have to go AMD to save a buck or two. Intel as some great midrange cpu's.

Well NEVER touch PNY again. It was the worst card ever. I wont be overclocking at all so I wanted a nice CPU that would do whats needed without having to OC it. I have no experance with DFI how are they? Quality/Lifetime.

How long do you think a DC will last compared to a QC. Furture proofing?

I hear ya. 1 Bad experience from certain hardware can ruin your opinion about them. I've been there.

The population of multi-threaded apps continues to grow. DC systems are now considered mainstream, where QC are (currently) enthusiast-level.

There are several apps/games due this year that will take advantage of quad-core CPUs. Crysis already does...

I dislike the term "future proofing". But If that's your intent, you should look at a different processor/mobo combo.

Q6600 is still a solid choice, for less than $200. You may want to wait until May for mobos - Intel P45/ICH10R boards will start flooding the market.

Looking for cheapest on the market NOW, not whats coming down the pipe not wait until this month etc. If I cant buy it today I dont care.

my computer right now has a dfi lanparty 250gb motherboard. over two years and not one problem. DFI is known for overclocking and very stable boards. the cpu and mobo combo I gave you, will take a crap all over that amd cpu you got in this thread. literally taking a dump on it.

Well I am not looking to overclock so its nice to hear that they do hold up to abuse because I am going to be babying it. Now NOT overclocking if I were to go your route would you do the E8400 or the Q6600?
Well - since you threw out the "NOW"...the E8400. In 6 mos, you'll wish you had a decent quad.

Buck if I keep waiting 6 months I will never have a computer. I understand better stuff is coming out down the road but I am not building a computer in 6 months, I am building a computer now.

But you think that the E8400 is going to out last the Amd quad?

Alright guys I have been doing some math IF and its a BIG IF I stretch a few things I could go with the board that GBQ posted and a Q9300. Would this be a better long term build?

you can save some money by going with the stock 8800gt. lol we can help overclock it to ssc speeds with rivaturner. its easy.

if you really don't want to oc any. that's going to be a very good build and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

* still at work *

oh what case are you going to use? I hear the rocketfish from bstbuy is a really good case and its only 50 bucks or so.

Antec 900.

Its a combo with the video card and CPU deal with a big mail in rebate. So this is better then the AMD deal even though its going to costs me a couple hundred more.
