HP Pavilion n5495: Battery, RAM, CPU?

This was a machine similar to XE3 Omnibook series

I have this machine P3 1.0Ghz, 512MB (256x2), 40/60GB HDD. 1400x1050.

It is old but functional with Win XP Pro on it. It is a decent machine that works pretty well.

I am thinking of 2 uses for it.

- Media Player Machine - Dedicated to be an entertainment box 24/7. This it was for around an year or so on DC electric adaptor power.
+ Connect it to External HDD's via Firewire & USB (1.1.. any way to replace to 2.0) and thereby make all files / media accessible to my ACTIVE laptops.
- Put it on the LAN as a FILE / MEDIA SERVER / PLAYER
- Get the battery so Mom can use it for some netsurfing, movie watching etc on it.

IS THERE A SPECIAL MINI LINUX DISTRO THAT CAN MAKE THIS A LITTLE MEDIA SERVER OF TYPES? Or a little Home Theatre PC (HTPC).

I heard there were Linux Distros that had FAST BOOTING into MINI MEDIA PLAYER / CENTERS of sorts?

EH yes no, all sorts of things. If you want to look at Myth, Mythdora, knoppmyth, and Mythbuntu are possibilities. There are a variety of media center distros out there to be honest, do you mind doing a bit of work setting it up?

Also just as a side impression, I would say it would be better, if using it for this purpose, to not set it up for portable usage so much, but rather to set it up so that it is stationary and attach a wireless keyboard and mouse to it. Just my two cents on it though, in all honesty if I was using it for a media center and file server, I probably wouldn't be using it for a desktop as well in most cases, but it certainly can be done.

Gotcha! I will keep that in mind. I have a Wireless Keyboard right behind the door.
