RAM Limit , Compaq V 6608 AU

Hi

I have a Compaq V 6608 AU laptop. The specifications on the website say that it supports up to 2 GB of RAM. I am not so sure about this limit. I need to know if I can safely buy and be able to use 2 x 2 GB of RAM...

This is the link to its specifications: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/in/en...-80841672.html

1. Has anybody tried this platform with more than 2 GB of RAM?

2. If more than 2 GB does not work indeed, what is the reason behind this limit?

Thanks

Dhruv

I just found this link: http://www.laptopviews.com/compaq-la...8au-laptop-pc/

They claim the limit to be 4 GB. How can I be sure before I buy?

Motherboard design and bios support are determining factors.

Although I would not take this as "gospel", I suspect that your notebook will take 4gb ram.

I believe that your notebook is essentially the lower-cost Compaq version of my HP dv6625us notebook, as the specs are pretty much identical, and my notebook does take 4gb ram. If your motherboard is a Quanta 30CF, then it is the same as mine and should handle 4gb.

It did! Fantastically picked up 4 GB of RAM. My 32 bit Windows XP recognizes and is able to utilize complete 3 GB of RAM. The video memory part is reserved from beyond the 3 GB my XP likes.

Good! It probably actually uses some 3.2 to 3.5 gb of that ram, not all 4gb to be sure, but likely more than just 3gb even.
