Your thoughts on this system: ASUS M50Sa-AK023C

I'm looking at buying a new laptop and found this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220306

I'm guessing it's fairly new, as I'm having trouble finding reviews on it.

The specs look good to me, but I'm far from an expert on this stuff. Some input on how it compares in its price range and whether or not there are any glaring problems with it would be a huge help.

There is a review of M50Sa-AK002C here. It looks pretty much the same model. A bit faster in 3D than M50Sv models with nVidia, higher screen resolution but less bright, larger HD and more RAM (albeit the latter may or may not be an advantage depending on planned laptop use).

A bit of an overkill since you you won't see all 4GB of RAM on Vista home. The ATI GPU despite having 1GB of RAM won't be much faster than the 9500GS. The 500GB hd is nice but only if you really have a need for it. I choose the M50SV-A1 instead and I saved $250.

4GB of RAM won't hurt either. Besides, when it's time to upgrade to 64-bit Vista (when drivers are stable), you won't need to buy 2GB stick (to replace 1GB stick).

Both ATI and NVIDIA GPUs have 128-bit video memory bus. Even 512MB of video RAM will not be used efficiently. But ATI has 120 processors vs. 32 in NVIDIA - that's where advantage comes from. And ATI is DirectX 10.1 (NVIDIA is DX 10).

Got myself M50SV-B1 though just because A1 was out of stock at the moment and M50Sa was not awailable. I was looking for 1440x900 screen resolution at least (NewEgg had only 1280x800 at the moment). I can upgrade CPU myself when I need to. There was a great deal on B1 too, so, even with BluRay drive, it did not cost me much. I hate glossy screen though.

I don't see myself needing a 64bit OS when most if not all the applications and games I run is still 32 bit. Anyway, at the rate I'm going thru Laptops (one every12-18 months). I'll be on my next purchase by the time those needs may surface (if at all).

Yea the Glossy screen will definately takes some getting used to. The advantage is that movies does look better is you can find a good spot for your laptop without a lot of reflections.
