Literally Shocking E1705/9400. Usual? Unusual?

It's really weird because when i normally type or whutever my laptop will not shock me, however when i lean my hand on the case or put a small area of my arm/ leg/ anyskin on me against the case of my E1705, it literally shocks me.

btw i don't test this by putting my arm, legs or anything on the case
just randomly happens

any thoughts? is this normal with any laptop?

its normal for users with 2 Prong power adapters. You can request a 3 prong connector from dell to fix the issue and.. wear less wool!

I get it with my XPS Gen2 - but only with a cheap power supply bought off ebay, it has a 3 prong connector but I don'y think they bothered using the earth pin. When I'm working my laptop sits on top of a metal edged road case which is earthed (400amp 415volt 3 phase distribution rack for concert lighting). I can measure approx 99volts between the corner of the chassis where the paint has worn off and the rack. It does tickle my wrists a bit. Don't worry the entire system is protected by 30milliamp RCCBs.

just call dell and tell them what are you experiencing

the prong problem didn't really seem to put out enough current to make it actually hurt, so that's an interesting problem. definitely call dell..that's a nasty problem
