M1710 Replacement

UPDATE: Page 4

Well after numerous issues with my outlet M1710, they are doing a replacement (within 21 days). What does everyone think I will get? Current specs are in my sig.

Also, I started the replacement process Monday morning, they said I should get something by today (at least a run down). Nothing so far, but I read it takes around 10 days or so. Is this correct?

Please let me know - thank you!

if your lucky you will get the m1730 with a 8800GTX, Dell really has not been consistant lately with thier replacements.

Hopefully like Dave said. But Im more of a cynical person so Im going to guess SLI 8700's I bet Dell will cheap out on your 8800's but for your sake I hope Im wrong

For some reason I am guessing 8700s as well. However we will soon (in a few days I hope) find out. Will fight for 8800 if I need to (going to be happy with anything atm cause my laptop isn't working right), but I just wish something will at least show up in my account to give me some hope - lol. There is nothing under service calls, nor orders for the service tag...

Originally I called Friday, but the rep only put it under return. However that was corrected Monday when I called again to make sure mine had a DVI (had to make sure). Then he stated that it was only under return, not under exchange. So I had that fixed. I just hope all is well since my original 21 days is almost up.

I think sonce you had the 7950GTX that you have a strong argument for the 8800 Sli.

But like I said Dell has been inconsistant lately.

It shouldnt be taking this long for you to get information on your replacement. They're usually available within a couple (2-3) days, at least the specs are. Give them another call to make sure everything is proceeding well.

According to dell chat - everything is ok on there end and it should be appearing on the site soon (hopefully)...

I remember when Dell replace my M170 to M1710 in 2 days after few attemps to repair my M170.

Just as a note - one thing he did say was factory, not outlet, that the other machine was coming from. However come to think of it its a chat session, so then again who knows for sure...

Rep: "Not to worry, it will be process in couple of days and will sent to factory to built the system."
Rep: "Once the tracking number is generated you will get the system in 3-5 business days."
Me: "I'm not worried about getting the system, well I am cause I really cant use this one. I am just worried about the information being entered correctly (not like the first time) and it being sent out to get made/sent another one. I trust it (information) has been now and I hopefully should see it on the site soon."
Rep: "Yes it should"
Me: "Alright, thank you sir."
Rep: "Thank you for choosing Dell XPS and allowing me the opportunity to assist you."

Should I even refresh the page every hour or so to see if anything is there since it could take 7-10 business days?

I am trying to to justify my insanity of hitting F5 all the time :P

In short - continues LCD issues - went through 5 or so during my first 13 days of purchase. I asked for another model (since the sec3155 that they were sending me kept having issues), and they could not since that was the only they had in stock (even though a rep requested the one that came stock with the 1710 in the first place). Gave the rep pictures and he agreed something is not right (x5). He even asked the lab to see if there is anything that could be done.

He was going to change the video card as well, however external is fine and the "issues" are all in different places almost every time. There is more to that, but thats the short short version...

So after thinking this though, I was going to get my money back (was annoyed (and I am a very patient person) and I didn't feel like replacing it myself anymore), but he offered a exchange. I said sure (since I liked the laptop in the first place), and then this started. However like I said in the previous post, he made a mistake so it did not really get entered right until Monday...

I will suggest you to get the M1730. Athought it is lot bigger than M1710, but the performance is gereat!! I treat it as a real desktop replacement. Remember to get the latest X9000 CPU and 8800SLI GPU. the rest isn't important such as HD, OS, DVD...because you can always get them cheaper from Newegg or other places.

Well, the standard 1710 replacement seems to be what I just got:

1730
T8300
SLI 8700's
160GB 7200RPM HDD
2GB RAM
802.11n

This is for my old M1710 that got submerged (gotta love complete care!). Just recieved the new 1730 in 3 business days - built new, no less

LOL - you would think exchanges and esp exchanges within the first 21 days of purchase should be that fast too Oh well...guess I need to wait some more.

Even though I have a 7950GTX, do you think I should get a 8700s SLI as well?
He just bough his M1710 under 21 days, and you think Dell will replace him a M1730 new?

Well if they give you a 8700Sli you can always call them and ask for the 8800, IMO your 7950GTX should get you the 8800, but as aready stated, Dell has been inconsistant with these m1730 replacements.
You will be getting a 8700sli since they have an equal amount of memory. Dell does not pay attention to all the details (eg, memory bandwidth, family, etc), but your replacement should be a 8800gtx sli. Just give them a call, and all will depend on who you talk to.

So far, I didn't receive nothing on the site nor in email form (day 5).So I have no idea what I will get in regards of the system itself, or even the type of GPU. Care reps said everything was fine, so all I have to do is wait...

Once I find out the specs - it will get posted as quick as the wind If its not a 8800 (that is, if its even a 1730 - not to be neg, but you never know...) then I will contact care. I just hope it is to avoid further delay (since I can't even use the laptop the way it is...)
