Events so far:
10th: originally put in the request.
14th: called to find out the rep did not put the request in properly
15th: chatted with cust care to make sure everything is ok with the request
21st: once again chatted with cust care to make sure everything is ok with the request
22nd: found out from the SRS rep that it should not take this long (email to rep) - went to manager for escalations
23rd: found out it was in production, and it should ship soon (call to SRS team) - as per SRS rep
24th: found that it was not in production, and that maybe a new system will be a sent out instead (per the orignal rep that handled the request - still pending status). I will be contacted, and if not to contact the SRS member Sunday mid day. Emailed managers and reps that I have contacted to get everyone on the same page so no issues can arise (double request).

Will post if I hear anything in the meantime.

Congrad, finally got this issue settle. This ssytem is definitely better than your M1710 with new CPU with 6MB L2. Your estimate 3DMArk06 score is 10k.

Good luck!!

Well - this stinks..... (kinda)

After speaking to quite a few agents (1 from tech, 1 from customer care, and 5 from SRS team), it looks like I have to pay for the 8800. Ironically enough, its going to be around $880 (cause of this special circumstance) including taxes (go figure).

The good news is thats its going to be covered under the system warranty and I am getting a new machine (at least thats what they say, and this cause issues in the first place (by mistake)).

The bad news is if anything happens to this machine, the exchange will equal to the original order (m1710). So I will have to fight again if anything goes wrong.

I have yet to receive either the card, or the laptop - but I am going to have fun when I do :P

How much total did you spend? If you really needs it performance, I think the money is worth of every penny especially if you need to run at high resolution of 3D editing. I have try to link my 30" Dell under AutoCad, and it works really good.

I went way over my budget of around $2000, but I figure it will last me at least 2 years and maybe I will decide to put that 2.8 in there if I get it off ebay.

Also it beats my current desktop (not the 9300 which my fiancee now has) running a P4 2.8 with a ATI x850 video card :P So I am not complaining any...

Laptop is going to be here tomorrow!

Do they (dhl) require a direct or indirect signature?

Now the video card is "on hold" (stuck in "Order Processing") based on what the rep is telling me so I am not sure I will get that by this week, but who knows.

DHL required someone to sign in person. I actually went to the DHL shipping center since I work late. Took me 2+ hours round trip. Totally worth it! Opened the package at the center made everyone jealous.

I left a note to leave the package and had my signature on it, but I doubt thats going to work. I spoke to DHL yesterday and they said "it might, depends on the driver". So like you said I may just pick up the package after work if its a failed delivery attempt. I just hope its not so I can just go home and image away

Still have no idea whats going on with my video card though...

I just received my m1730, and wow...what a difference

I thought it was going to a big "monster", but it really isn't that bad. Yea its thick and a bit heavy, but you have a lot of graphic/processing power for a portable system. Oh, and the power brick is huge, but I can live with it :P Thank you Dell!!!!

I can't wait till the 8800 is shipped (was in limbo cause the credit dept needed a call), its currently "in production" now and I hope to have it soon!!!

Now when I ship the other one back, can I wipe out the HD (zero it out), or they need the image?

Ok well - I dunno - maybe I just had bad luck with dell or something? They can't seem to get the video card to ship from dispatch. They dunno why, and this is nuts. I paid for the darn thing too!!

Anyway, this is what happened so far:

4/28 - ordered the card
5/1 - was told I had issues with my credit card and needed to correct it
5/5 - order was canceled due to the "Federal Mail Order Rule" and reordered.
5/9 - card still has not shipped and they said everything is fine with the order, however they can't seem to get it shipped. Card is in stock, just it won't ship....

this stinks.... advice anyone?

I called up once again and they (shipping delay dept) stated that my order is "illegal" and cannot be processed. I asked why it was "illegal" and they stated - we dunno...

This is really, really screwed up...

EDIT: Well it wasn't "illegal" as in illegal. They meant that they do not have any in stock at this time and the order will be cancelled (again). Oh well - back to the beginning...

Well, another update. Someone from Dell emailed me back today. They placed another order, but under another customer number and its currently in order processing. They took the money that they received from the last transaction and put it towards the new one. It should go into production within 12 hours he said.

According to the rep I should get it by this week for sure, but we will see about that...

I will keep everyone updated - as always...

what sort of problems do you need for dell to decide to replace you m1710?
Are you still want the 8800M SLI? I dound only few games really benefit from 8800M SLI, most of the games are enough with 8700M SLI. Maybe hold off torward next lappy?
Hey SS. If thats true, yuo want to swap 8700 sli for 8800 sli

To replace a 1710 takes 3.5 weeks of calls and four service visits -
1) faulty replacement 7950GTX (stuck bits in VRAM),
2 & 3) two techs not applying HTC to the GPU or heatsink thus cooking the motherboard,
4) and then the machine goes to the workshop for 4 days gets returned working, lasts 1/2 a day and then displays VRAM error (yes the original issue) again

Tech then has the gall to point out a replacement is not a possibility as there is 60 days left on 1 yr wty (was 85 when started), to which I pointed out that the offer of repair + 1 yr extra wty didn't count for squat when I get treated like this and the machine's STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I don't care, I paid for 365 days worth of XPS premium support.

A Replacements CSO over East (Australia) today offered me an exchange XPS1730+Dual8800+T8300+4G+2x160G+1yrWTY.

Paperwork helped as well me as them admitting that the service agent in our area is causing Dell so much grief that they're changing service agents... The "60 days" comment caused a minor shitstorm as well.

Well a minor update...

The 3rd attempt (for the 8800) is in production now and it should ship out this Friday. This is nuts....
