Help! 7950 died in 1710 and Dell won't replace under warranty

I got a 7950 last year from an authorized reseller, and have had no problems until last week. It just started artifacting in safe mode and getting BSOD. I called Dell and explained whole situation and they said they would replace the card if I could provide an order number when the card was purchased from Dell. I've left several messages to the reseller and he hasn't gotten back to me. So I contacted Dell again and they're still saying the same thing. I don't OC or anything like that and I have complete care too. Basically I have a paperweight that's still under warranty. The laptop isn't even a year old. Anybody have any ideas...?

If you had change the ownership to your name, then Dell will fix your problem. Every lappy has the Service Tag, but you have to transfer the name to your name.

The laptop came from Dell directly to me with 7900GS, I upgraded to 7950...

Where exactly did you get the card from? Be specific

I got the card t from Bal`thzar, as I live near him. I've boughts parts from him several times for other projects, and I've never had a problem. I'm just not happy that Dell wont replace the card since I didn't buy it directly from them, and I cant produce an order number showing it was purchased from Dell...Tech suggested I contact Nvidia...And I said it is clearly a Dell branded part...all I got was "sorry can't help you."

lol, from bal thaz you won't get no warranty at all.
you have to buy from dell if you want warranty.

point blank.

Unless your reseller willing to return for RMA for you. Otehrwise you are screwed.

Yeah he used to sell parts to forum people here. We found out later on Dell directly contacted us to tell us this was against there wishes so we had to put a stop to that for the very reason youve run into now. Since you live near him id suggest you give him a little visit and have him replace the card for you since hes an authorized dealer he should have no problems replacing the card for you and providing the order number for future repairs with dell directly.

However doesn't he only have a 90 day warranty? I bought my 7800GTX from him and bought extra ins cause of that.

I tried to email around a month ago, but no reply. Is he still around?

I've bought stuff from Balthazar before (maybe a year or so ago). He's aces in my book. I don't LARP or DM D&D using D20, but if that's what floats his boat, rock on .

lol. the dungeons and dragons reference was one of the funniest things i've read in the past few days on the internetzors...

RIP GARY GYGAX.

honestly, you should've seen a situation like this coming if you didn't buy the part from dell and performed an upgrade via your own path. sorry to hear of your position, but you gotta look at it from the vendor's point of view as well if the warranty is properly documented

Yeah. Parts generally have a limited warranty.. unlike a complete care package with Dell. Thats the risk you take when you buy parts elsewhere.

At half the price that Dell sells for....So one ahs to weigh the risk vs Savings

I always buy from Dell, and the only reason is saving myself out of trouble. If you want to save some money, go Dell Outlet and wait for coupons.

yeh, you would have been better off not telling dell that you bought the card from a reseller. then they would have shipped you a new 7900gs and you would be up and running again. but, too late now... looks like you're in the market for a new card now dude...

just call someone else and tell them you bought it from them.

My motto- if one cant help, hang up until you get what you need

Man, I had M1710 last year and I bought 7950 gtx from ebay and I had some problems with it and I called dell and I told them that I upgraded my laptop while I was over seas and they asked me about invoice or order no. and I told them I dont have it and I asked them to run a check on it,,, so In ur case call them again and told them that u did the same as me and they will take the serial no. from ur v.card and run a check on it and they will find its a dell product and its under warrenty if ur system under warrenty, and they will replace it.

Mine was replaced 4 times ( I got from ebay USA and I am in Australia) then I asked for a replacement and they gave me M1730.

So I hope that will make ur card replaced and I hope I didnt miss anything here

**Update** Dell is sending a replacement laptop. Another 1710, but with more ram and bigger hard drive, oh and with a 7950...and all I wanted was a replacement card...Dell support is unbelievable...as long as you are persistent.
