Fried I9300 Brick, any reason to not use higher watt ones?

Looks like my original 90W gave up the ghost. Lucky I have access to a couple in the meantime, but need to get a new one, prob off ebay. (not looked yet)

Any reason or benefit from say 130w - 150w Bricks?

Thanks!

IMHO, no - since the laptop is designed to run @ 90w. At work we used to go through them every once in a while, so its nothing major - it just happens.

If you get a 130w the brick will be cooler to touch as my old 90w run very hot but never failed. Also i would try and get a real dell power supply as some have reported troubles booting or charging battery from a 3rd party brick.

The 6800Go shouldn't push you over the 90W limit. The 130W can run cooler but in your case I'd just recommend getting the 90W brick again because its smaller and you won't have any issues with it.

I do like the thought of one running cooler. What is the Model number for the 130w model? (my 90w is a PA-10)

Thanks!

Its a PA-13 for a 130w Power Brick

The main difference ist energy-efficiency.
The 130w model is not as energy-efficient with a 90W notebook as 90w power brick with a 90w notebook.

But if you have an additional desktop pc it is probably fare worse matched with its psu than a 90w notebook with a 130w psu. So not really worth worrying to mutch.

You'll need the PA-13 if you decide to upgrade the video card, so it's best to get it now.

OK, this is REALLY wierd!

I got a PA-13 off Ebay, not a Dell one though. Awesome shipping, and has full year warranty which I might be using.

I removed the company dell ps from my I9300 and plugged in the PA-13....and when it's plugged in wierd stuff happens with input tools.

The Alps pad no longer functions, and the MS USB Mouse reacts slow, and auto selects things all the time.....

When I unplug the PA-13....all is normal again.

Any thoughts?

I emailed the seller.....this is just too wierd.....I should also mention it feels no cooler then my old PS either.

I'd send it back and try and get an original dell psu. Third party ones can act a bit strange so i have read.

Always buy official Dell power supplies from eBay...never cheap copies...

I am also thinking of buying a 130 PA (upgrading video card to a 7900 GTX), but I was wondering if the PA is going to be compatible with my E1705... I mean "plug" compatible. I am guessing it will, but I would feel much better if someone else tells me it will.

I just got a supposed Dell oem pa-13 off ebay because I'm upgrading to a 7800gtx. I actually just received it. I quickly opened it up to see what rev it was and the sticker that has the rev information was missing. Should I be concerned that it's not oem?
