I don't know how this thread got RAIDed, but back to the 8800 oc tools.
One issue I'm having is that Ntune is not sticking after reboot with the 174.31 drivers for me. Haven't tried it with the older driver.
The 1730 for now, is realy a beast. Even my X7900 (not X9000) scores over 14K in 3D mark 06, around 14100 (sorry didn't save the pic) with a conservative OC on the GPU of 612/949..cpu at 3.4 & this is without ANY Vista tweaks and a bunch of tray and service items running as well is Aero.
I think where the X9000 has the edge over the X7900, is in CPU intensive areas, not becasue of raw processing power as both are about equal, but in that it doesn't throttle at all, or near as much at near 100% load due to heat. My X7900 on the other hand, falls victim to the throttling roller coaster on the CPU screens in 3D mark 06.
Here you can clearly see the throttling on the CPU screens 1 and 2
It's possible, that I would get higher number with a lower OC on the CPU, and forcing the fans to high with I8kFanGui as this might keep the CPU below the throttling threashhold, it remains to be seen however, if the slight throttling back to around 2.8ghz or running at a constant say 3.0 or 3.2, would provide the best result. Testing testing testing....I tend to thinkg, that there is a chance of the latter, as with my old 1710 and the 7600G (got the 1730 as a free replacement under warrenty), that a lower clock might get beter results, provided that the fans are still forced to high as the processor would not go into a throttling state. However, in games, I have never seen the proccessor peg long enough at 100% to throtte as in 3dmark scenes 1 & 2. So some testing to be done there.
Now the video cards, could take a lot more OC then what I'm pushing as I never get over 50C which is LOW!, and I'm still searching for the best drivers before I push the clocks further. So far, I have only tried Dell's 167.55s and 174.31s. I actualy got a higher score by about 100points with the older drivers (weird?), but game performance is actualy superior with the 174.31, despite the 3Dmark drop, and I suspect it's because a lot of SLI issues were ironed out in the new drivers.
What is everyone else running? Post your scores, drivers, OC clocks, temps and Vista state (ie...bare bones...network services off, what tweaks etc..)
