now i have updated the video card to a dual pipe 7900GS and 2 GB ram and a 2.0 Core 2 Duo and a 200GB HD but off course dell is not going to count these upgrades so a vostro is not going to cut it for me

how do i push dell for a 1730 or 1710 or some? How about the missing DVI option how many people have gotten a 1730 or 1710 due to this?
I dont think you are asking the right question here.

just pay for it!!!!!!!!

not sure what that means silver. My laptop is dead and dell is sending me a replacement and i will have to send my laptop back and i have spent all that money already on these extra parts that i got to send back so i need something good and not a crappy 8600
post #4 of 65
I see. I thought you want to get a lappy for free.
very unlikely. Probably a 1720, but you're welcome to try spending a million years on the phone with them.

It's more likely they'll give you a full refund on your laptop than give you a 1730.
Dell is replacing my e1705 also. I will be completely pissed if they try to give me a 1720 or a vostro with no dvi. I just bought a god damn 1500 dollar lcd for my laptop, before it crapped out. I also have had nothing but problems since the day I bought my laptop, I have literally had everything replaced on it. I would nto mind anoher e1705 but if they try to give me a 1720 I will never buy a dell again.
I too am having to swap an Ins9400/e1705 with Dell. So far they are trying the 1720, but I pointed out mine was ordered with 7900gs and with a DVI port. so we will see.
Expect a 1720 with a DVI adapter.

DVI adpater suxxx
its unlikely they will give you that freebie. sorry but you didnt buy an xps and they are not likely to just jump you up to it.

upgrades you do on your own are not their responsibility or fault... if anything it may count against you since they could blame its failure on those.

well this is my first non business dell i have alway had dell for my work and man that support is so easy and wonderfull i just call and they agree to what ever i say they dont make me do tests to make sure i am not lying. Next time i am buying complete care and smash the thing up if it brakes.
Say hello to the 1720. They are not that bad. I used my old one with a DVI adapter. It was ok. If you don't like it sell it and buy new. Dell cut back on giving sweet upgrades like you want. I tried for months. Then gave up and bought one.

that is completely unethical and an abuse of the warranty that i wouldnt recomment posting... besides it wont get you the upgrade you want for sure. there is nothing saying that dell has to give you an xps when you bought a different line simply because of that.

although i do agree that business support is better, my xps was through business and the support is 10X better than what home users get.

i bought mine through government and education. any better chance for me since i bought it through that?

LOL hahaaha

I agree. I like M1730, but it was too expensive with what I wanted. So I turn to Dell Outlet with $3k, even comes with 3 yrs warranty and complete care. I simply sold my old M1710 for $1,000 to my co-worker. I still have more than 1 yr of warranty & complete care, and it is not necessary that I should damage my lappy for a M1730 without spend money.

yooo jerkwad i am tired of stupid people like you who have more money then brains just shutup and go back and thank your dad for giving you the money

i work for my money and if i am getting screwed by dell just bec i dont want to pay double for upgrade parts by buying direct from dell i think i deserve an equalent spec pc.
mrkool,

If you did not buy from Dell for your upgrade part, how can you ask Dell to replace or free upgrade for you? Everyone works hard for their money so is you and I, but that has nothing to do with Dell.

You are asking Dell to replace parts that you purchase from third party. Why don't you call BestBuy, I am sure they will take care of you. Is that making any sense to you??

There is nothing wrong you buy parts from a third party to save money. So am I, I buy the pair of 320GB HDs for $320 included tax. Of course, you can ask Dell for something that is same or similiar spec to what you purcahse from Dell. Usually Dell will offer you something better, and I am sure of that. That is why I am still a customer to Dell.

Consider this a warning for both of you, mrkool and wardo.
