| As planned quite some time ago, Intel has cut the prices of its 65nm-built Q6600 and Q6700 processors. With the 45nm quads experiencing a tight supply, the 'old' but still capable Kentsfields are now more attractive and will give AMD's Phenoms something to cry itself to sleep about. The price cuts that took effect yesterday got the 2.4 GHz-clocked Q6600 down to $224 (in 1000 unit quantities) and the 2.66 GHz Q6700 to $266, the latter's price falling by 50% from the previous $530. Some new price cuts (for the lower-cost segment) and new releases are planned for next month. |
